Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 04/03/13

Action Comics #19 (DC)
NickZ: Can it be? The first good issue of Action Comics since the new 52 began? I think yes.

Age of Apocalypse #14 (Marvel)
Jeff: It’s rather sad that this title had to end with this ridiculous crossover.
NickZ: X-Termination is actually not bad except for the fact that it’s likely most of the alternate X-Men will end up dead.

Age of Ultron #4 (Marvel)
Andrew: One of Marvel’s better events. AoU has proven itself a refreshing break from Marvel NOW!
Infinite Speech: $#!% just go real! Alas, Cage and She Hulk, we knew them well!
Jeff: Things are finally starting to heat up. I’m hoping for the best.

All-New X-Men #10 (Marvel)
Arnab: Will someone please kill off Beast already? That sanctimonious prick has been useless for years now. A
Infinite Speech: The hard questions finally get asked and this is still my favorite X Book!
Jeff: Aw, c’mon Bendis! You can’t leave us hanging like that!
NickZ: Cyclops finally speaks his mind and gives a much need verbal smack down to some of his former friends while giving the young, OG X-Men a more accurate history lesson of recent events.

Animal Man #19 (DC)
Arnab: Cliff is dead, Ellen is not thinking straigh, Maxine is trapped, and Buddy is completely isolated from everything. Can someone give this family a break already? A
Dr. Bustos: This family has been put through the wringer and the poor child isn’t getting any favors by ignoring who she is. A-

Batman: Detective Comics #19 (DC)
Arnab: If DC hadn’t screwed things up, this would have been “Detective Comics #900”. That would have been awesome. A
NickZ: An 80 page monster with some pretty great stories but worth eight bucks? eh?

Batwing #19 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Everything gets wrapped up nicely as the new Batwing is introduced. Not bad. Not bad at all.
NickZ: This issue had a really shocking twist that I totally did not expect. Big changes start next issue.

Bedlam #6 (Image)
Arnab: Abso-fucking-lutely fantastic. I do no apologize for the language, because that’s how great this issue was. A
Jeff: A fantastic ending to the first arc. Go pick up the trade!

Deadpool #7 (Marvel)
Arnab: This was, interesting. I haven’t found this series to be all that funny yet. Have there been funny parts? Sure, but not what I’ve come to expect from a Deadpool book. B+
Dr. Bustos: This was a lot of fun to have a throw back issue to a time that never existed for Deadpool. A
NickZ: This is one of the most hilarious things EVER! A must read from start to finish. (letter column included!)

Earth 2 #11 (DC)
Infinite Speech: LOVE the costume designs for the New 52 Dr. Fate and Mr. Miracle

Fairest #14 (Vertigo)
Andrew: Spoiler alert: You get to see someone with what’s literally a sh*t eating grin on their face.

Five Weapons #2 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Still awesome and still worth it!

Green Arrow #19 (DC)
Arnab: Good issue. That girl’s a freak, in both a good and bad way. B
Dr. Bustos: That kid is creepy and how is she not getting written into a corner? B+

Harbinger Wars #1 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: This is shaping up to be one damn fine event!

Indestructible Hulk #6 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: So, ummm…yeah. That happened didn’t it.
Jeff: I have to admit, Simonson’s work was not as rough as it was on his Avengers arc.

The Last of Us: American Dreams #1 (Dark Horse Comics)
Andrew: Goddamnit. After reading this, I HAVE to buy the game when it comes out.

Locke & Key: Omega #4 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: I really don’t want this series to end but DAMN this was a great issue!
Jeff: How in the world will they clean all of this up in only 3 more issues? This book is sooooo good!

Masks #5 (Dynamite)
Andrew: The Avengers of pulp fiction. Solid but didn’t knock me off my feet like the beginning issues.
Infinite Speech: The word “justice” appears in this story more times than necessary. Seriously. It’s annoying.

Miss Fury #1 (Dynamite)
Andrew: Dynamite proves yet again that they are the kings at reviving pulp/golden age heroes. Catwoman on steroid driven PMS.

Red She-Hulk #64 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: An underground society and the return of Tesla, I’m for it. B+

Sex #1 (Image)
Andrew: Sex is pretty interesting, although I’m sure it will get even better over the next few months…that didn’t sound right.

Shadowman #6 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Too many artists kept this from being as good as it should have been.

Smallville #12 (DC)
NickZ: All I am going to say about this book is: Smallville. Crisis. Awesome! SUPERMAN FANS READ THIS BOOK!

Spawn #230 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Thanks to McFarlane & Kudranski Spawn is smarter, darker, and one hell of a roller coaster ride of a title!

Superior Spider-Man #7 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Cardia c shows up and it looks like Spidey has plans on defeating the Avengers.
Jeff: Oh yeah, the Avengers are on the case. I’m glad someone has noticed the change in Peter.
NickZ: Please don’t let Peter come back anytime soon!

Thanos Rising #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Good look into the beginnings of an already great villain.
Jeff: Jason Aaron plants some really good character seeds in this first issue.
