Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 7/4/12

Action Comics #11 (DC)
Dr. Bustos: Seeing Superman struggle with not getting to be Clark is fun. B
NickZ: Batman was in this issue, so that’s something

Age of Apocalypse #5 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: zzzZZZzzzz….but somehow still better than AvX. Go figure.
Jeff: Quentin Quire shows in the AoA! And a new artist Davide Gianfelice is a great fit for this book!
NickZ: Some pretty cool things happen in this issue. Also, an interesting version of Quentin Quire appears.

Amazing Spider-Man #689 (Marvel)
Decapitated Dan: Spidey won’t hurt Morbius, he couldn’t take care of Ock, so why should I think he will do anything here. If the Lizard keeps this up, he might need to be Jack O’s sidekick in my upcoming title.
Infinite Speech: When it comes to the Lizard & Morbius, Pete really doesn’t think things through. What an idiot. Another solid issue from Slott!
Jeff: I love while everyone is standing around talking, Morbius is sucking neck in the corner. I don’t think they intended that to be as funny as it was.

Animal Man #11 (DC)
Decapitated Dan: Love it all. The art had it’s moments, but this issue was as amazing as all the rest. Too bad now we have to waste an issue or two with this crossover.
Dr. Bustos:
A power upgrade and then I felt it almost seemed too easy an ending but it didn’t disappoint with that, where’s Swamp Thing? B

Artifacts #19 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: Every one of these issues gets the 80s slow clap! Marz and Sejic are delivering one very cool book on a consistant basis here folks!

Avengers vs. X-Men #7 (Marvel)
Arnab: And the award for most naively written character of all time: Hope. What’s wrong with these writers? This girl was raised by Cable. She should be allying with no one. C+
Infinite Speech: Huh?
Jeff: Ok, forget what I said about last issue, this event really just sucks. Go away Matt Fraction.
NickZ: Namor is an idiot and so is Hope, her objectives seem to change with every issue.

Batwing #11 (DC)
Dr. Bustos: I love the introduction to new heroes and villains, I hope they stick around, Lord Battle seems like he could be a Doctor Doom for DC. B
Infinite Speech: I’m liking this series still but can we chill with all the guest appearences from Nightwing & Bruce?
NickZ: I really want Marcus To to draw Nightwing from now on.

Before Watchmen: Ozymandias #1 (DC)
NickZ: This was kinda interesting but ultimately unnecessary.

Creator Owned Heroes #2 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Two great tales along with a bunch of extras help round out another worthwhile issue!

Danger Club #3 (Image)
Decapitated Dan: This series just keeps getting better and better. SO MUCH DEATH AND DESTRUCTION! LOVE IT

Dial H #3 (DC)
Jeff: Ok, you lost me. Dropped.

Deadpool #57 (Marvel)
Arnab:
If you want a great Deadpool story, what say you drop Uncanny X-Force and start reading this book. Trust. A
NickZ: Poor Deadpool. The dude can never seem to catch a break.

Detective Comics #11 (DC)
Arnab: How come everyone and their mothers can seem to perfect cloning in everything but real life? B
NickZ:
A very Fringe-like Batman story. I approve.

Executive Assistant: Assassins #1 (Aspen)
Infinite Speech: Violence, sexy assassins, and a pretty strong story so far! Some of what makes a comic worth reading!

Fanboys vs. Zombies #4 (BOOM!)
Arnab: This series is the comic book equivalent of what “The Guild” is for MMORPG’s. In other words, it’s hilarious, fun, and flippin’ awesome. A

Green Arrow #11 (DC)
Dr. Bustos: Ollie has to deal with the fallout of the past story as his company is failing could be lots of fun. Not digging the Occupy part though, seems forced. A

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: The new twist with the mythos is enjoyable. Tann’s artwork wasn’t.

Infernal Man-Thing #1 (Marvel)
Decapitated Dan: Loved the intro, loved the original story in the back, and now I wonder where the new story will go. Great art, but this would probably be better as an OGN.
Infinite Speech: Trippy and I’m not too sure what the point of this issue was but I’m sure it ties into his recent return in Dark Avengers.

Invincible #93 (Image)
Dr. Bustos: I’m finding Robot and Monster Girl’s back story more interesting for some reason, not sure why. C+
NickZ: The art in this book is AMAZING! There are even TWO full page spreads! Ottley and Walker are phenoms.

Invincible Iron-Man #520 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: We’re inching closer and closer to the end game of Mandarin’s plot, especially with what’s happening to Tony, don’t know what’s going to happen next. B
Infinite Speech: Mandarin plays the “Why are you hitting yourself” game with Tony! Still a solid story arc but I’m hoping that Fraction speeds some things up.

Justice League International #11 (DC)
NickZ: First victory for this team that didn’t end with one of them dead or severely injured.

Morning Glories #20 (Image)
Jeff: So Lara’s a bad guy, huh? She was one of the few people I really liked in this series.

The Punisher #13 (Marvel)
Decapitated Dan: Even though I missed #2-12, this was still enjoyable. It is good to see Nick Fur… I mean Frank Castle with an eyepatch. Good stuff, but this should be a Max title always and forever.

Smallville #3 (DC)
NickZ: If you watched the show, read this book, it’s even better!

Spawn #221 (Image)
Infinite Speech: You could not have convinced me years ago that I’d be enjoying Spawn this much again!

Ultimate Spider-Man #12 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: Miles finally confronts his uncle and this go bad fast. I still want him to at least tell his mom if not both his parents. A
Infinite Speech: So good to see Miles get a little proactive and take the fight to Prowler! You want to see perfection? Take a look at this series!
Jeff: What if Uncle Ben was a manipulative, dirt-bag of a villain? Spidey still learns that “with great power comes great responsibility.”

Uncanny X-Men #15 (Marvel)
Arnab: Cyclops vs. Sinister is like that Christian God vs. the Devil. Get it? Cuz Scott’s got the Phoenix’s godly powers and Sinister lives deep under ground. 😀 (Wouldn’t it be awesome if the Marvel gods played a huge trick on everyone and had the Maddie clones take in the Phoenix, like permanently?) A
Jeff:
I guess the Phoenix power also grants the X-Men the ability to have an unlimited amount of time to do anything–bringing peace on earth, hunting Avengers, and going to war with Sinister.
NickZ: I think Cyclops is at his best when he is faced with Sinister. This will get ugly.

Wolverine #310 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: If it wasn’t for the artwork I’d be even more upset with this story than I already am.
Jeff: Oh, no, not more of this Loeb/Bianchi/Romulus crap! Ugh!
NickZ: So Wolverine killed a Sabretooth clone? Lame.

X-Factor #239 (Marvel)
Arnab: Polaris and Havoc need their own book. This book needs more Layla, Madrox, and Shatterstar. B
Jeff:
Wow, here’s an issue of X-Factor that I care absolutely nothing about. Let’s get back to good art and more Madrox stuff.
NickZ: I feel that Havok and Polaris are pretty useless in this book. They never should have come back.
