Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 7/11/12

American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares #2 (Vertigo)
Arnab: Dracula is back and he’s understandably pissed. A
Jeff:
Next time you want to give that special someone a truly meaningful gift…barf up a rat and pour its blood on them.

Avenging Spider-Man #9 (Marvel)
Jeff: Another pointless goof-up by Marvel. Why couldn’t they release this after Captain Marvel #1?
SpidermanGeek: Just plain fun and a good teaser of what to expect from Captain Marvel #1. Dodson’s artwork is always a visual treat.  A+

AvX: VS #4 (Marvel)
Jeff: Thank you, Rick Remender, for leaving the Daredevil/Psylocke fight a tie. That’s a perfect match-up.
Infinite Speech: Daredevil vs Psylocke was the high point of this issue then some other stuff happened.

Batgirl #11 (DC)
Arnab: Easily one of the best issues in the series. Batgirl is finally starting to feel like a hero I can root for. B+

Batman #11 (DC)
Arnab: So goddamn fantastic. That Bruce/Dick conversation after the fight was just awesome. A
Infinite Speech: The talk with Dick & Bruce was good but the back up story was more compelling.
Jeff:
I feel like this Court of Owls thing went on way too long, but when Greg Capullo is drawing it, I don’t seem to mind.

Batman and Robin #11 (DC)
Arnab: This book is back to being ridiculous and not in a good way. Damian is still a psychopath and Bruce throws a hissy fit. C

Bloodshot #1 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Seeing the hero get blown away time and time again never looked so good! Great issue!

Chew: Secret Agent Poyo #1 (Image)
Arnab: Everything you’d expect and more. A

Creepy #9 (Dark Horse)
Decapitated Dan: LOVE IT! I love that this series is back, and I love how MOST stories carry that old school flavor.

Eerie #1 (Dark Horse)
Decapitated Dan: Ahh the odd little cousin of Creepy is now back, and it was really good, but still a little too sci-fi for me. It has that Eerie vibe of yesterday though.

Enormous #1 (Image)
Decapitated Dan: This book was AWESOME TO THE MAX!!! I love the size, I love the art, I love the story, I LOVE IT ALL!!! READ IT!!!

Harbinger #2 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Another intense issue that delivers solid quality with both art and story!

Hoax Hunters #1 (Image)
Decapitated Dan: Awesome stuff, so happy to see this one shot turn into a series. Great concept, awesome execution.

Locke & Key: Clockworks Hardcover (IDW)
Infintie Speech: Reading the series collected like this just takes awesome to another level!

New Avengers #28 (Marvel)
Jeff: It’s about time the X-Men owned these Avengers like this.
Infinite Speech: This issue was one serious mind %$#@ for the New Avengers!

New Mutants #45 (Marvel)
Jeff: Marvel, put Leandro Fernandez on a non-super-hero book, please. This is painful!

Peter Panzerfaust #5 (Image)
Arnab: It’s a shame more people aren’t reading this book, because it is consistently well written and beautifully illustrated. A

Punk Rock Jesus #1 (Vertigo)
Jeff: Sean Murphy hits the ground running with a well-paced, well-imagined, and controversial idea. Loved it!

Revival #1 (Image)
Decapitated Dan: So much better than I expected, actually it is not at all what I expected. I can not wait to see this mystery unravel.
Infinite Speech: Not a bad issue but when do people just shove their hands down a supposedly diseased horses mouth without gloves??

Scarlet Spider #7 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: If Scarlet Spider is going to survive in Houston he’s going to need a costume change! You need to check this series out if you’re not reading it!
SpidermanGeek: Pham’s style is more subtle than Stegman’s, but the feel of the book remains, for now. Oh, and Kaine gets laid. B+

Spider-Men #3 (Marvel)
Decapitated Dan: By far the BEST book of the week. I was tearing up at the end. This is how you do a Marvel book right.
Jeff:
This book is exactly how it should be. And that last panel…WHOA!
Infinite Speech: Wow! This book went in a totally different direction than I expected and ended up tugging on the heart strings!
SpidermanGeek: This mini-series is awesome.  Peter’s intro to the Ultimate Universe is very well handled & Pichelli’s pencils are great. A+

The Strain #6 (Dark Horse)
Decapitated Dan: I love this series. The vampire concept here is great, and with the announcement that there are a group of originals, this series just got deeper. Vampires done right in my book.

Superboy #11 (DC)
Arnab: Bunker is the best new character in the New DC universe. This book was all kinds of fun. Something some other writer’s who are writing kids should think about.

The Walking Dead #100 (Image)
Arnab: What. The. Fuck. A
Decapitated Dan:
Alright, I don’t read this series, that is known, but when a special issue comes around I check it out. Yeah… missing so much previous made this one mean nothing to me. I saw one zombie though, but it’s still not a horror comic.
Jeff: I need some therapy after reading this issue. A little too brutal for my liking.

Uncanny X-Force #27 (Marvel)
Arnab: I really want Fantomex to be dead.
Infinite Speech: So glad this series is back on track after last issue. These bad guys are truly “Evil”!
Jeff: The Brotherhood is BACK, and actually lives up to the name “Evil Mutants.”

Venom #20 (Marvel)
Decapitated Dan: I wish people would just die more often. It can build more depth for your main character and add motive for him to kill. But there was one awesome death in this one and a great end reveal.

Wolverine & the X-Men #13 (Marvel)
Arnab: Boring. Ok, not really boring, but I didn’t care for it. B
Infinite Speech: Anyone notice the Watchmen parallel with Warbird’s session? Decent issue and now I want to know what the retalliation will be for the beating Gladiator just took.
Jeff: I find Warbird extremely uninteresting. Next, please.
