Batman #76 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. The story is all over the place, and doesn’t seem to flow. There are tons of great parts in here, including a creepy Scarecrow sequence, some Damian/Tim moments, and KITE MAN! But there’s some odd choices like whatever King is doing to Gotham Girl
DCeased #4 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. I’m enjoying this way more than I thought I would, & it’s due to both the writing AND the art. The character-driven moments are what make it more than just a standard zombie-book, but the art-driven action scenes like an infected Giganta make it exciting.
Green Lantern #10 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Lantern League? Legion of Green Lanterns? Whatever it is, I love it. Morrison mixes the crazy science-fiction settings from the first issues of his run along with revisiting the Multiverse he loves writing, and the results is a treat for readers.
House of X #2 (Marvel)
Arnab: As far as retcons go, I don’t mind this one in the least bit. If anything, Moira just got a whole lot more interesting.
Justice League #29 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Tons of Jarro this issue, which is great! What I found odd was how “fatherly” Batman acts to Jarro, and yet he never seems to act with such compassion toward his own son or his “wards” over the years. Other than that minor quibble, a great issue.
Lois Lane #2 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. This series is so much more than just a look at Superman’s significant other, and I’m glad for that. This is a well-written detective noir thriller, and the inclusion of the Renee Montoya version of Question makes so much sense. A fun, gripping thriller.
Sandman Universe: The Dreaming #12 (Vertigo)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. The art in this is beautiful, and Evely’s depiction of the groups of demons and “elder gods” (Cthulhu-esque) are wonderful. The story is complex, complicated, and hard to follow, but that’s par for the course for a Sandman story.
Superman: Up in the Sky #2 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. A 2-part story continuation of Superman’s quest to find a girl kidnapped by space aliens. Part 1 tells of Superman’s determination to never give up; it’s good if a little repetitive. The 2nd story is touching & shows how Superman inspires.
Year of the Villain: Sinestro #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. A very unique & unexpected story on the relationship between Sinestro & Lex Luthor, & how Sinestro ends up eliminating a threat to Luthor’s plans. In particular, I did expect the interesting twist at the end of Sinestro’s solution.
