Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 07/31/19

American Carnage #9 (DC Vertigo)
Infinite Speech:
That ending though!!! Wow, Bryan Hill, you deserve all the accolades for this one along with the rest of the creative team! Going back to reread the entire series now!

Avengers #22 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
This is one crazy Ghost Rider centered issue and between Robbie and The Avengers I don’t know who’s more screwed!

Batman Who Laughs #7 (DC)
Infinite Speech:
I thought it was just “Batman Fatigue” but I just don’t like this version. Glad it’s over.
Martin: 4/5 stars. I rank this highly mainly based on Jock’s art and also some really great Alfred scenes. I personally have never found the Batman Who Laughs all that compelling, and the storylines of Bruce always needing to suffer are getting a little old.

Batman: Last Knight on Earth #2 (DC Black Label)
Infinite Speech: Proof that it wasn’t “Batman Fatigue” since I’m enjoying this story so much more! Snyder is giving a surprise around every corner and Capullo is making it look fantastic!
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. River Styx! A mohawked post-apocalyptic Wonder Woman! The Red! Unknown Soldier(s)! The HAUNTED TANK, for Pete’s Sake! What DOESN’T this story have? Well, maybe a coherent plot. But the art’s fabulous & Joker’s one-liners are some of his best.

Black Panther #14 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
Coates gave us a little more hope with this issue and reminded us that’s it’s not wise to doubt Bast!

Captain America #12 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Coates on Captain America has been the best! He just hit us with a “HOLY $#!@” moment and now I just want a Daughters of Liberty mini-series!

Goon #4 (Albatross)
Infinite Speech:
If you’re not reading Goon then you’re missing out on comedy greatness right here!

Green Lantern Annual #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Morrison has Hal return from space to deal with something most people would find even more frightening: a family get-together. Some great lines in here & great characterization, as well as the inclusion of obscure characters like Air Wave.

Justice League Dark Annual #1 (DC)
Martin: Justice League Dark Annual #1: 4/5 stars. DC is on a roll this week with its oversized issues, specials, and annuals. JL Dark is no exception, keeping up the high quality of the main series with an exploration of the avatar of the new Parliament of Flowers.

Killers #1 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech:
The world of spies, espionage, and ninja action just got a lot deadlier with Killers! This was a perfect jumping on point and I’m here for the duration!

Powers of X #1 (Marvel)
Arnab:
In general, I’m not a huge fan of stories that take place across multiple time periods, but this one is just done so well. Still very excited for the X-Men.
Infinite Speech: A much darker turn from House of X as Hickman starts laying the groundwork for the next stage of the X-Men.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #96 (IDW)
Infinite Speech:
Splinter is done playing around and he’s pretty damn scary. Oh, and Casey could have handled that a lot better than he did.

Venom Annual #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
That game of cat and mouse was…boring. Sorry, this one just wasn’t for me.
