Character Spotlight: Secret Six

Character Spotlight: Secret Six

Though there have been several Secret Six teams, one stood out above the others. One made from villains who were looking to make a quick buck but discovered they work well as a team. So what do a group of villains get hired in the first place? Let’s find out!

The Secret Six were Lex Luthor’s answer to Alexander Luthor, Lex from an alternate Earth, and his Secret Society of Super-Villains. Lex couldn’t stand to be one upped by anyone, let alone himself, so the Secret Six were bribed or blackmailed to compete with them. He hid his identity by using the codename Mockingbird, then proceeded to collect Scandal Savage, Deadshot, Ragdoll, Cheshire, the Fiddler and a Parademon.

The team proved to be effective but Fiddler was shown to be not that useful since his powers were unreliable. Deadshot was tasked with killing Fiddler then to help recruit another teammate, kill the lions that Catman had been tending to, but disguised as Society member, Deathstroke. Having turned down the Society before, Catman took this as their revenge against him dismissing them, then joins the Secret Six.

The new team would go up against the Society and while the Parademon would die and Cheshire would betray them, they still came out alive. This was thanks to Scandal’s girlfriend, Knockout, being a mole within the Society and Scandal’s father, Vandal Savage also stepping in. Luthor would finally reveal he was Mockingbird to the team, and with the Society defeated, they were released from his service.

Realizing they liked how they worked together, the team, now including Knockout, would stay together to do mercenary work that was too big for any of them on their own. The team would go on a variety of missions and even have several roster changes as they would go on. The core team tended to be Scandal, Deadshot, Ragdoll, and Catman while other members such as Bane and Jeanette would become frequent members as well.

Scandal was often the leader, having the best tactical mind for their jobs but sometimes Bane would take the lead and Deadshot made a good second in command from his years leading the Suicide Squad. As the group survived through missions they became something of a found family with one another and would even get aggressive in their tending to one another for help. Tough love can be the one type of love villains excel at.

There you have it! The Secret Six are a group that slowly became a bit of a family during all their mercantile adventures. Some of their adventures have been adapted to the small screen but not starring the Secret Six. When will the team get ready for battle next? We’ll have to wait to find out. See you next time!
