X-Men Power Rankings #10 + #9

Hey there Comic Attackers! If you’re like me you can never get enough of the X-Men. Yet, there are so many mutants out there that they’ve become incredibly hard to keep track of, let alone stay up to date on what their current power levels are. That’s why I have taken up the task to power rank all of the active X-Men post Messiah Complex from the very least to the top beast! There are 75 mutants in all to rank and today we break into the Top 10!

So what are power rankings? Mostly used to rank sports teams on how well they are playing now, my power rankings are a list of X-Men based on what their power set is in current continuity (or most recent appearance). Other factors that determined a character’s ranking are: what their power potential is, what they’ve already proven they can do (so long as it is still relevant in current continuity), and their over all level of badassness. If you disagree with me that’s totally cool- please feel free to call me out and explain what your reasoning is. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me, and while I believe this list to be very solid in it’s numbering, I’m interested to hear what you have to say! Today we cover the first two mutants in the Top 10 and they’re both current members of X-Factor!

#10. Monet St. Croix: Monet is one of the most underrated mutants on the X-Men’s radar right now, but in these power rankings she gets the respect she deserves. Most recently in X-Factor, Monet took a bunch of bullets to the face and body, and survived an explosion at its source, only to walk away without any clothes but otherwise completely unscathed. She’s scorching hot, intelligent beyond the level of a genius, and is highly skilled in hand to hand combat. Recently punched the hell out of the mind controlling villain Cortex, and she’s taken up a personal vendetta that involves her family; a pissed off Monet is something any sane man would avoid.

Powers: Monet’s laundry list of powers are a major reason why she is ranked so high here. She’s like Rogue used to be, only replace the absorption powers with telepathy. She’s invulnerable, has super strength, enhanced agility, and superior reflexes. Her regenerative healing factor allows her to recover from practically every wound, she is resistant to most toxins and diseases, and her enhanced senses grant night vision, telescopic vision, and acute hearing. Monet can fly up to at least 500 mph, and telepathy allows her to read people’s minds, project her thoughts into the minds of others, wipe memories, and even cast illusions. She’s also sexy as hell!

First Appearance: Generation X #1, 1994.

#9. Darwin: This one is probably going to shock a lot of people, and understandably so because unless you’re reading X-Factor or have read X-Men: Deadly Genesis by Ed Brubaker (who created him) you have no clue who the hell Armando Munoz is. All I’ll say is this: Read his power set below and tell me how you could rank him outside of the Top 10. I’m all ears.

Powers: Darwin is an Omega-Level Mutant whose ability is defined as Instantaneous Adaptation. This means that he has the power to adapt to any harmful situation by continually evolving, letting his powers subconsciously (and involuntarily) protect him. His power is reactive, adjusting his capabilities to his environment. So if he were to be trapped underwater, he would grow gills; if he were to be in total darkness, he’d develop night vision; if he were gassed, his lungs would adapt to the poisoned air, etc. The only thing preventing Darwin from ranking even higher on this list is that when it comes to combat, he isn’t the best fighter. As time goes on though, I’m sure that this will change.

First Appearance: X-Men: Deadly Genesis #2, 2006.

are you gonna do a Top 10 only? why not 25? am a sucker for these lists. i wouldn’t be surprised if Darwin ranked higher. then i wanna know how you kill him. i also expect to see Bobby Drake in the top 5.

  2. billy

I don’t know about these two being top ten material. Maybe top twenty.

@grifter I did a Top 75 actually! Just check the right hand column and click the “X-Men Power Rankings” link.

@grifter Oh, and Iceman definitely gets respect in these rankings!

@billy These two are DEFINITELY Top 10 material. Monet is like Rogue used to be only with limited psychic abilities and Darwin, well, he can’t be killed!!

  5. billy

@Andy-Psylocke would own both of them.

I don’t think so. Monet has enough of a psychic defense against Betsy plus she has flight and invulnerability. Monet would pound her to pulp before Betsy could light up her psi-knife. And as for Darwin, well, he can evolve to survive anything!
