After some intense internal struggle last issue, Josie made the decision not go through on a hit. Thus, prompting her employer to permit her handler to execute her. However, if you’ve been paying attention the past few issue then you already know this is a task easier said than done. As Peck finds out firsthand on the side of the road when he becomes introduced to Josie’s heeled shoe and ends up on the receiving end of her quick thinking with the help of a bystander. We’re also introduced to two new characters who are sure to mix things up and seem just as dangerous, if not more, than Josie is.

This issue is just as fun and fast paced as the rest while the creative continues keeps you on the edge of your seat. From the conflict between Peck and Josie to just seeing how she is going to be able to keep this other life from her family you couldn’t ask for better storytelling. Josie’s development over the last few issues has been a huge reason why the series is so good. She could easily have fallen into being just another one dimensional assassin but Jones and Rich did well to give us a well rounded character that’s enjoyable for more than one reason. The time period this takes place in also helps to add something different especially when you consider how women were viewed back then. Of course those narrow minded views are what allows Josie to be good at her job because she’s not seen as a threat. When you throw in the emotional conflicts and Josie’s scrutinizing mother-in-law it just makes for a very great series.

Now is the time to continue to gush over the artwork from Jones and the colors by Laura Allred. The artwork has been phenomenal from the beginning and has consistently stayed the course. The action sequences between Ruby and Josie flow like a well choreographed fight and Jones makes sure that you feel every blow. She also continues to capture the time period perfectly from wardrobe to architecture to make sure you are fully immersed in the story.

With only one more issue of Lady Killer left to go the stage is set for something very big to happen. It’s been a great series from the first issue and one that deserves to be on anyone’s pull list. Though, as stated before, Josie’s world feels much larger than the five issues we’ll be getting so hopefully the creative team will bring her back real soon!
