Kickstarter Spotlight: Universal Fan Con

Kickstarter Spotlight: Universal Fan Con

Just when you’re on social media and not expecting to see anything good, some news scrolls across your timeline that puts a huge smile on your face! Last night, Black Girl Nerds announced a new convention is coming that will have a focus on those of us who love this fandom but deal with being a “minority in a minority of the minority” to quote the great Hooper X. So in partnership with The Black Geeks, the two will be bringing Universal Fan Con to the masses in 2018 with your help via their Kickstarter!

Their goal is $25,000 and Universal Fan Con will be held at the Baltimore Convention Center the weekend of  April 27th – 29th, 2018. The rewards for backers are more than enticing enough for you to want to get in on this immediately and be a part of something new and groundbreaking.

From the Kickstarter page:

Whether you are a fan of anime, comics, gaming, movies, or television, or you just believe in our mission of inclusion in a time when intolerance seems to be on the rise, we ask that you join with us and support this kickstarter. Not only will you have an amazing experience, you will help us take one small step closer to making the world just a little bit better for everyone.

There’s levels to this geek life and it’s celebrated by a wide range of people who don’t fit in any one restrictive category so Universal Fan Con seeks to give some shine to these marginalized fans and creators who are usually overlooked or just dismissed at various other cons.

So head over to the Universal Fan Con Kickstarter Page for some more info and see what you can do to help make this happen in 2018! Also check out the official Universal Fan Con Website along with Black Girl Nerds and The Black Geeks!
