Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 02/20/19

American Carnage #4 (DC)
Infinite Speech:
Obviously Bryan Hill doesn’t care about my feelings and is just out here writing one hell of a story because that last page was brutal!

Avengers #15 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
Jason Aaron is on top of his game and delivering an Avengers story so wild you have to read it!

Avengers: No Road Home #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
If you’re a Hawkeye fan you might want to say goodbye now.

Batman #65 (DC)
Infinite Speech:
It seems as if the Gotham Girl storyline is just filler as the real draw here is the Flash/Batman interactions.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. While the overall cross-over story with the Flash has been good, the treatment of Gotham Girl’s character seems to be wasted potential, and there really hasn’t been as much to tie to this Heroes in Crisis as was originally thought.

Bitter Root #4 (Image)
Infinite Speech:
Four issues in and everything has hit the fan with the reveal of new monsters and the family is heavily outnumbered! The entire creative team is on fire with this one!

East of West #41 (Image)
Martin:
4/5 stars. The story and art in this book make it impossible to hate, despite the long delays between issues and the very complicated list of plot threads & characters to keep straight. But, after reading just the first few pages, I’m right back in it.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
This was not on my radar but after a suggestion to pick up last issue and this being just as great, Tom Taylor and Juann Cabal have me hooked!

High Level #1 (Vertigo)
Martin:
4/5 stars. A really interesting and compelling main character in a dystopian future in what appears to be Canada. While, individually, there are a lot pieces here that are cliche, when all mixed together with well-crafted main character, it works.

Incursion #1 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech:
I love a good Gilad and Geomancer story and this one is exactly what I’m looking for.

Justice League #18 (DC)
Infinite Speech:
I guess things had to slow down a bit as Lex and Brainiac reveal some dark things ahead. I can’t wait until they double cross each other though.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Really great art, & some really good character development for Luthor, but there was just so much exposition & backstory in this one, mostly by Luthor over-explaining everything to “Braniac” (or, really, the reader) & it’s quite long & complicated.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
Saladin Ahmed is writing the kind of Miles Morales stories that gets kids to love comics! And now I want Rhino to randomly team-up with Miles again in the future!

Naomi #2 (DC)
Infinite Speech:
This is a mystery that Bendis and Walker have me fully invested in. And Jamal Campbell’s art is PHENOMENAL in every single panel!
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. It’s possible that I might like this issue even better than #1, and I gave that one a very high score & a detailed review at @ComicAttack. The mystery behind the character is unfolding very slowly, but she’s such an interesting character that I don’t mind.

Shuri #5 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
At this point I’m here for the story more than the art.

Superb #17 (Lion Forge)
Infinite Speech:
Jonah is tired of being underestimated because of a disability and once again he’s proved why he’s not to be slept on!

Venom #11 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
Cates has taken the Eddie/Symbiote relationship to a new level of drama and that cliffhanger was a gut check!
