It’s a completely different direction for Aquaman, as Cullen Bunn takes over on writing duties. The issue splits its time in the present and the past, showing exactly what drove Aquaman to turn his back on his people and more importantly his queen, Mera. Bunn does a remarkable job taking over and just going for it. It helps that Trevor McCarthy and Guy Major are on art duties, because the book looks amazing. McCarthy continues to impress issue after issue, with his fluid style and wonderfully intricate layouts. The story is a fresh take and direction for a series that may have been suffering from monotony. Along with the new story direction, Aquaman himself gets a makeover for the better, with a spectacular new outfit and an even cooler sword/trident. 4.5/5
Grayson #9

Dick Grayson, super spy extraordinaire, is unfortunately trapped undercover for the time being. We all know Bruce is still alive, so it’s not as if Dick is going to be undercover for the remainder of his life, but leaving him undercover while he’s out soulsearching seems harsh. With Helena in charge of SPYRAL now, his purpose as a superspy has morphed into a more beneficial occupation, keeping the world’s superheroes’ secrets, secret. Tim Seeley and Tom King continue right where they left off, delivering a fast paced, action packed, bundle of entertainment. The new direction for this series is exciting and wonderfully executed, and in the hands of Mikel Janin and Jermey Cox, beautifully illustrated. This creative team is absolutely perfect for this setup and this series. 4.5/5
We Are…Robin #1

It is the beginning of a new era in Gotham city. Batman is “dead” and has been replaced by a cop and Robin is off on his year of atonement, leaving Gotham open to a new breed of heroes. While the premise itself is a tad troubling, a group made up of vigilante kids who seemingly have no super powers to protect them, Stiles is still happy to be saved by the equally petulant group of kids who collectively go by “Robin” now. Though the premise of the series remains questionable, that doesn’t change the fact that the issue itself is quite good. The character development that takes place in this first issue is wonderful. Duke is a fantastic character and based on this first issue, is definitely interesting enough to stick around for at least another issue. 3.5/5
