Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 06/24/15

Adventure time #41 (Boom!)
NickZ: Jake Wyatt did an awesome cover featuring some of the most famous swords from nerd culture.

Age of Ultron vs Marvel Zombies #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Well, that was fun…then Hank Pym showed up and it wasn’t anymore.

Batgirl #41 (DC)
NickZ: Another fantastic issue from this awesome creative team. I’m not sure why Gordon would be helping to hunt down Batman’s allies tho?

E is for Extinction #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: This was just so strange and the art was pretty awful.

Fight Club 2 #2 (Dark Horse)
NickZ: I need this to be made into a movie, STAT!

Flash #41 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Some nice art here, and a cool twist on the classic “Flash’s dad is in jail for a crime he didn’t commit.”

gotham by midnight 6Gotham By Midnight #6 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. I was ready to drop this after Templesmith left, but this kick-off to a new arc is very compelling.
NickZ: If you like supernatural tales and police dramas, then you must read this amazing series. Great cases, great cast, great execution!

Grayson #9 (DC)
Arnab: This series is easily one of my favorite books being published right now.
NickZ: The objectification of Dick in this series is so over the top and yet, it still doesn’t compare to the way female characters are treated in every other comic book.

Green Lantern – Lost Army #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Fantastic art and a fresh look at the successor to the “GL Corps” with a few surprise characters.

Grindhouse: Drive In, Bleed Out #6 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Everything about this issue was funkastic!

Howard the Duck #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: Chip Zdarsky writes the most hilarious books in comics. I’ve never laughed more at Johnny Storm than I did in this issue.

Infinity Gauntlet #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This is better than you think it is and feels like it’ll be one of the top Secret Wars tie-ins!

Jem & the Holograms #4 (IDW)jem 4
Infinite Speech: I forgot that most of the Misfit’s acts against Jem involved attempted murder and Sophie Campbell makes it look fantastic!

Kaptara #3 (Image)
NickZ: And if you find Howard the Duck hilarious, this book is HTD on crack. There is so much crazy s*** in this book but I love every second of it.

Loki Agent of Asgard #15 (Marvel)
NickZ: You haven’t lived until you’ve seen Asgardians fighting with machine guns! Also, Freyja is a beast!

M.O.D.O.K. Assassin #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: MODOK falls for Thor-Angela and it’s a better love story than Twilight.

Mulan: Revelations #1 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: A futuristic twist on a classic tale that was a great first issue

Ninjak #4 (Valiant)ninjak 4
Infinite Speech: Roku’s origin is another awesome story in this great Ninjak series!

Penny Dora and the Wishing Box #5 (Image)
NickZ: This was a cute little series that you should totally get for your kids to read.

Sex #22 (Image)
NickZ: A lot of stuff is going on in this issue. It seems as though every character is now in play and the story is building to something big.

Sons of the Devil #2 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Buccellato and Infante do it again with another issue as Travis runs into the killer!
NickZ: Even better than the first issue! I am officially hooked. Don’t miss this fantastic series.

Spawn #253 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Jenkins and Jonboy craft another great issue that digs into Al’s past with his father.

Suiciders #5 (Vertigo)
Infinite Speech: Bermejo is writer and artist on this series and keeps putting out issue after issue of one of the best new stories out this year!

Superman #41 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Yang’s Superman is a bit more “down to earth” but the “Truth” storyline suffers from being told out-of-sequence.

Teen Titans #9 (DC)
Arnab: Rocafort’s art makes this book better.
Infinite Speech: I liked the Rocafort art more than the story but the set up for next issue looks promising.
NickZ: Convergence really hurt this book for me as I completely forgot what was happening before.

The Fade Out #7 (Image)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. This creative team continues to knock it out of the park. Lots of moody atmosphere, both in words & in art.

The Tithe #3 (Image)
Infinite Speech: It doesn’t matter what side of the argument you’re on, it’s evident that Hawkins and Ekedal are on fire with this one!
NickZ: Another fantastic series from Matt Hawkins and Rahsan Ekedal. The S*** really hit the fan in this issue! I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Uncanny Avengers #5 (Marvel)
NickZ: There were some great Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Vision moments in this issue, but I’m still not buying that Magneto is not their dad.

The Walking Dead #142 (Image)
walking dead 142Arnab: HOT Damn.
NickZ: The last panel of this issue was CRAY!

Wayward #9 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Supernatural greatness in every issue from this creative team that just keeps getting better
NickZ: I don’t know if i’m more disturbed by the Dirt Spiders or Rori’s questionable use of her powers.

We Are…Robin #1 (DC)
Arnab: A team of non-powered kids seems iffy, but it was still a good start.
Infinite Speech:
I didn’t think I’d like this story but I’m glad that I was wrong and it’s good to see Duke Thomas again. Check it out if you were on the fence.
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Great “street-level” story about Gotham’s disenfranchised youth following Robin’s example. Fun, different art
NickZ: A great start to this series. I love the main character and the creative team.

X-Men’92 #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: This is everything that you wanted it to be! The 90’s X-Men are back and I couldn’t be more excited!
