animal man 29Animal Man #29
Writer: Jeff Lemire
Artists: Jeff Lemire, Travel Foreman, Lovern Kindierski, and Jose Villarrubia
Cover Artists: Jeff Lemire
Publisher: DC

After 29 excellent issues, Animal Man comes to an end, though you can follow his adventures in the upcoming Justice League United series. This issue really wraps up the entire series. Through the use of a bedtime story told by Maxine, Jeff Lemire recaps the entirety of the series, from battling the Red to Cliff dying, in such a way that it is not annoying or repetitive. This series, from the very beginning, has been absolutely wonderful. Lemire’s story has been emotional and family driven, and he really does a great job of emphasizing that in the final issue. Unlike in many final issues, everything does not magically right itself, and yet, somehow the book manages to leave off on a hopeful note. Graced with an amazing art team the entire run, this final issue does not disappoint. Travel Foreman returns to share art duties on the final issue with Lemire. The two’s distinct styles work perfectly together, demonstrating the proper way to incorporate two different art styles in one book. 4.5/5

red hood and the outlaws 29Red Hood and the Outlaws #29
Writers: Will Pfeifer
Artists:
Rafa Sandoval, Paul Neary, Jordi Tarragona, and Matt Yackey
Cover Artists:
Phillip Tan and Romulo Fajardo Jr.
Publisher:
DC

With the way things have been going for this series, a new creative team was just the thing it needed. With this being the first issue in the story, there are obviously many questions left unanswered. However, Will Pfeifer does an excellent job of setting up this arc and taking the series in a completely different direction. Red Hood’s magical problems are left behind as a group of aliens steal Kori’s ship, with Arsenal trapped inside. The issue had a nice steady pace filled with bits of action, humor, and surprises left and right. Rafa Sandoval does a remarkable job on art duties with this issue. He has a great flair for layouts and characters, and really makes this issue look wonderful. 4/5
