Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 1/25/2012

Alpha Flight #8 (Marvel)
Capekiller: Pretty standard ending to a forgettable series.

American Vampire #23 (Vertigo)
Arnab: I freaking love this book. Snyder is doing a remarkable job evoking the 50’s feel and Albuquerque is absolutely killing it.
Jeff: Was that last page supposed to be a surprise? It would have been better if they hadn’t shown who was in the car at all.

Aquaman #5 (DC)
Arnab:
See, now this is what Geoff Johns is good at, and should stick to, a solo title.
Capekiller:
Another great story by Geoff Johns. The first bunch of panels by Ivan Reis are really awesome!
Andy: Keep working your magic Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis!

Astonishing X-Men #46 (Marvel)
Capekiller
: I should be used to Astonishing stories reading like Alternative realities by now, but for some reason I’m still not.
Jeff:
Scott is now forced to choose between a multiverse of mutants or one world of humans. I’m liking this set up!
NickZ: OK, Cyclops is the new Magneto, we get it!

Batman The Dark Knight #5 (DC)
Arnab: This, ladies and gentlemen, is the story about how Batman can kick your ass, and everyone else you know’s ass.
NickZ: As much as I love Batman, How in the hell did he make Superman bleed by punching him?

Daken Dark Wolverine #20 (Marvel)
NickZ: Talk about a dark and tragic love story. And I thought Buffy and Spike had a dark relationship.

Deadpool #49.1 (Marvel)
NickZ: This was dumb, even for Deadpool

Fantastic Four #602 (Marvel)
Arnab:
Listen up kids, I don’t even really like the Fantastic Four, but this title is off the chain good right now.

FF #14 (Marvel)
Arnab:
While Valeria can be a bit of a know-it-all, when she’s good, she’s good. And Franklin? Well that kid is just taking charge left and right.

The Flash #5 (DC)
Arnab: Now, this is a Barry Allen Flash book I can get behind. Granted, I would like to see Wally and Jay sometime soon!
NickZ: I like the sci-fi angle of this new Flash book and again the art is killer!

The Fury of Firestorm: the Nuclear Men #5 (DC)
Arnab: Here’s the deal with this story: it’s not as great as it could be. Here’s why: Jason is a dick. Ronnie is a fool. It feels as if the writer’s are trying their hardest to make us hate these characters.

Infestation 2 #1 (IDW)
Andy: About what I was expecting. Nothing amazing, but a decent read. The penis jokes lamed it up a bit. I just want to read the TMNT issues!

Justice League #5 (DC)
Andy: So good! The issue we’ve all been waiting for. A well drawn and superbly written fight sequence, where Johns gives his favorites the spotlight. A+ in my book.
Arnab: Absolutely terrible. This isn’t a team book, it’s a book that features a whole mess of superheroes. And when I say mess, I mean mess.
NickZ: As long as I keep in mind that this story takes place years ago, I don’t have a problem with it. Plus it’s Jim Lee’s art, so really who cares?

Justice League Dark #5 (DC)
Andy: The best issue so far as this team finally sets out together. Mikel Janin’s artwork is absolutely beautiful, and I’d recommend checking this issue out, even if you missed the first 4.

The Savage Hawkman #5 (DC)
Andy: I want to like this book more than I actually do. This run as a whole has been some of Philip Tan’s finest work… too bad the words don’t live up to the same standard.

Scam #1 (Comix Tribe)
Andy: Impressive. Most impressive. In a sentence, it’s like X-Men meets Ocean’s 11. Really well written. I’m looking forward to #2.

Secret Avengers #21.1 (Marvel)
Jeff: Dammit, Rick Remender, you made me care about and love an issue with just Captain America and Hawkeye! Well done!

Superman #5 (DC)
NickZ: This book needs another reboot!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #6 (IDW)
Andy: With every issue this title keeps getting stronger. If you ever liked the TMNT, now’s the time to come back into the fold!
Arnab: This series is so much like the turtles I grew up with, with a nice modern and mature twist. The story is fantastic, the art is great; I can’t wait for the next one!

Teen Titans #5 (DC)
Arnab: This should be DC’s flagship team book, not that trash in Justice League’s clothing. Also, Red Robin beat the crap out of Superboy. Finally Tim gets some spotlight.
NickZ: What a teen superhero book should be! Love the art, love the story, love the characters. ‘Nuff said!

Ultimate Comics The Ultimates #6
Andy: Just read #3-6 back to back. Wow, this is great stuff! If you’re a fan of the Ultimate Universe, this book has lots to offer you.

The Walking Dead #93 (Skybound)
Andy: This can’t end well. Not with #100 looming on the horizon. No way, Jose!
Arnab: Trade routes? We all saw the heat this guy was packing. It’s going to be a slaughterhouse!
Capekiller: Rick goes all renegade in this issue.  Maybe he should be the next character to die….
Jeff: I’m glad Kirkman only spent one issue on Rick being convinced that this guy is telling the truth. I thought he might drag that out.
NickZ: Not a whole lot going on here, but to quote any Star Wars character, “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”

X-Men Legacy #261 (Marvel)
Arnab: Wtf, Rogue? Go leach off people your own age! And let’s get this straight, when Hope wanted to fight in Second Coming, Scott told her to stay out of it. Rogue is the one who took her into battle. Rogue did that.
Capekiller: Exodus shows up and cleans house.  X-books are looking good again!
Jeff: Yes! Exodus is back and he’s kicking ass!
NickZ: Can Rogue stop using the kids powers to fight off various menaces? It’s getting old.
