Contest of Champions (CoC) Episode #14: Thor vs. Gladiator?

Welcome to Contest of Champions (CoC) Podcast, Episode #14! CoC is an interactive player vs. player game where your favorite Marvel characters go head to head to answer the eternal question of “who can beat whom in a fight?”
Join Jeff Jackson and Ian Johnson every week as they welcome two team managers who have a stable of five characters each ready to blast, zap, snikt, thwip, and smash their way to be the last one standing! It’s a little bit fan fiction, a little bit debate, a little bit role playing, and a whole bunch of fun! It’s an interactive adventure for the managers, and for the ComicAttack.net community.
This week, we’re joined by Dan Briand & Tom McNeely and a heaping helping of technical difficulties.

First, on this episode we shared our weekly Fights of the Week!
Dan and Jeff both chose Avenging Spider-Man #1 by Zeb Wells and Joe Madureira, where Spider-Man teams up with Red Hulk and the rest of the Avengers to take out a bunch of AIM agents, a giant robot, a ton of Moloids, and a giant worm creature all in ONE issue!
Tom represents the DC by choosing Green Lantern Corps #2 by Peter J. Tomasi & Fernando Pasarin, where Jon Stewart and Guy Gardner take on some terraforming aliens.
Ian loves the Vision, and so of course he picked Avengers Origins: Vision #1 by Alex Siegel, Kyle Higgins, and Stephane Perger, especially when Vision rips Ultron apart by becoming tangible inside of him.

So here’s what you’ve been waiting for:

This week we have quite the show as we say sayonara to our first competitor! Because of the results of last week’s fight, Tom McNeely loses Gladiator and therefore can’t fight against Thor. However, that doesn’t stop us from talking about Thor vs. Gladiator as part of the results of the Beta Ray Bill/Gladiator fight, so feel free to comment on who would win between those big guys below.
You can click on the images to find out the characters’ power sets and history.

3. VOTE on the poll below! You have until Sunday nights at 9:00pm EST to vote. That’s when we record the show. Votes at the time of recording will be the only ones that will count.
4. E-mail us at capekiller@comicattack.net or jeff@comicattack.net or leave us a voicemail or text at 706 761-0115 with your questions, comments, or rationales. You WILL make it on the show!
5. Listen to the next episode to see who wins! The winner will be announced during the show.
6. One small disclaimer: This is all subjective. Have fun with it and if your favorite character doesn’t win, laugh it off and keep on listening!
But, since this fight isn’t really official, we want to hear your opinion about the e-mail we received this week. Cameran from Mississippi wants to know: “Who wins in a fight: digital comics or hard copy comics?” Listen to the show to hear what we think! Thanks Cameran!

    Ian,

I think it’s awesome how you’ve got the boys at your school to read. Many times, I think adults believe that comic books aren’t real books. And it’s not real reading. You’re helping to dispel that myth. I didn’t start reading in abundance until I started reading comic books. You can learn a good bit of science and vocabulary words from character’s like Henry McCoy.

    Keep it up.

Thanks! My Board has started sending administrators to observe in my classroom because the boys are so engaged in reading in my classroom (Sometimes too engaged…..)
Any reading is good reading, and if you are engaged in what you read and know where to find more of the same type of reading, I think you are on the right path!
