Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 09/12/12

Adventure Time: Marceline and the Scream Queens #3 (kaboom!)
Dr. Bustos: Marcy is heading into a downward spiral, but what of the band? B

American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares #4 (Vertigo)
Arnab: Fantastic issue. I love
Jeff:
This mini-series is just not doing it for me. I forgot half of who the characters were in this issue.

Avengers Assemble #7 (Marvel)
Jeff: This should be the flagship Avengers title, but I get the feeling that no one is reading this.

Avengers vs. X-Men #11 (Marvel)
Arnab: I have never been more proud of Scott Summers, ever. Now, if he would only kill of some Avengers, I’d be thrilled. But of course that won’t happen, because this book is an Avengers book, guest staring the X-Men. B+
Infinite Speech:
Thanks for the spolier on this one the week before it came out Marvel!
Jeff: It’s about time that guy died.
NickZ: Behold the X-Men’s greatest enemy… Brian Michael Bendis! I fear for the future.

Avenging Spider-Man #12 (Marvel)
NickZ: Spidey and Deadpool invade Peter’s dreams! Hilarity ensues.

Batgirl #0 (DC)
Arnab: The best issue of the series so far. This, my fellow fans, is the best Barbara Bordon you’ll find in this new DC universe. A
NickZ:
Babs kicks ass for the first time and impresses Batman. Not bad, kid, not bad.

Batman #0 (DC)
Arnab: Solid issue, but it doesn’t particularly work as a one-shot. Back up story was great, but DC really screwed up, well, everything. B+
Dr. Bustos:
The ending alone was great, just seeing everyone look at the signal for the first time. The ages seem weird, but that symbol. A
Infinite Speech: Still confused about the Robin timeline but a good issue regardless.
Jeff: This issue did a good job of tying elements of the movies into the new history.
NickZ: The Robins (YES ROBINS) story at the end was pretty cool.

Batman and Robin #0 (DC)
Arnab: I made the mistake of reading this after Batman #0, so the entire time I could only think about the fact that Damian should be younger than 5. B
NickZ:
I almost feel sorry for Damian… almost.

Before Watchmen: Comedian #3 (DC)
NickZ: Comedian deals with anti-war protests in the only way he can.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 #13 (Dark Horse)
NickZ: Buffy realizes that no matter how much she wants a “regular life”, she is and always will be “the slayer”!

Chew #28 (Image)
Jeff: I wish they had done this entire issue in Tony’s hallucination. Hilarious!
NickZ: Food fashion show, killer rooster, trippin’ agents, and exploding meat!! This has it all, my friends!

Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. #0 (DC)
Dr. Bustos: I love retellings of Frankenstein and this one gave plenty of new twitsts one the story. A

Harbinger #4 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech:
Good story and even better artwork and we even get a quoted Nas verse!

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe #2 (DC)
Infinite Speech:
Much better than the first issue and it looks like I’ll stick with it as long as it’s good!

It Girl & the Atomics #2 (Image)
Jeff: The only good thing about this issue was the cover, which was hilarious because it really didn’t have anything to do with the inside.

New Avengers #30 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Whoa! Just one damn good issue from Bendis and Deodatto! Gonna miss Cage.
Jeff: The “black” comment from Daredevil made me laugh out loud. Great issue!
NickZ: The Avengers get a glimpse of what life as a mutant is like and Luke Cage makes a big decision.

Punk Rock Jesus #3 (Vertigo)
Jeff: This book is just fantastic and continues to play with the notions of “what if Jesus grew up in 21st Century America.” A great commentary on modern religion.

Scarlet Spider #9 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: There should be a law against how much fun this series is! And if there were I’d be happy to break it!
NickZ:
Kaine reluctantly saves the day while cursing Peter Parker and his darn responsibility!

Superboy #0 (DC)
NickZ: What the…? I’m not sure I like where this is going.

Uncanny X-Force #31 (Marvel)
Arnab: That final page is the best page of Deadpool since this series began. A
Infinite Speech: The outcome of this story can either go bad, really bad, or FUBAR for the good guys. Either way I’m along for the ride!
Jeff: That last page of Deadpool…please let something awesome happen!
NickZ: Could this book be any better? I honestly don’t know what’s gonna happen next and that makes it so cool!

Uncanny X-Men #18 (Marvel)
Jeff: Garney’s art is stellar, but this issue meandered too much.
NickZ: Magik is seriously effed up! Magneto got told and Emma got jacked. What is going on?

Waking: Dreams End #4 (Zenescope)
Infinite Speech:
Well, glad that’s over and what was the motivation of the murderer again?

Wolverine & the X-Men #16 (Marvel)
Arnab: I forgot how much I enjoy the new Hellfire Club and the way they make Logan look a fool. B+
Dr. Bustos:
I’m not a fan of the new Hellfire Club. D
Infinite Speech: So Rykers takes in kids now? Anyway, Nice origin on Kilgore w/ some great dark humor.
Jeff: Bachalo + new Hellfire Club = Happy Jeff
NickZ: The less Wolverine in this book, the more I like it. Someone needs to teach these Hellfire brats a lesson.

X-Men #35 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: ……..
Jeff: This book is simply awful.
NickZ: What is Storm doing? And more importantly.. do I care?

X-Men: Legacy #273 (Marvel)
Jeff: I had to skim this issue, because I just did not like the Tigers vs. Bugs war.
NickZ: Rogue single handedly saves an entire world. She should have stayed there.

X-O Manowar #5 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech:
Layers are being peeled back and Ninjak makes an appearence so how can you go wrong?

X-Treme X-Men #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
This title is X-Tremely horrible.
Jeff: It’s unbelievable how irrelevant and uninteresting this book is.
NickZ: I can only take one alternate reality X-Men book… and this is not it!
