Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 8/22/12

Adventure Time #7 (Kaboom!)
NickZ: Oh my Glob! Future Finn and Jake are totally awesome!!

Amazing Spider-Man #692 (Marvel)
Jeff: Ramos is back and Spidey takes on a sidekick that he accidentally created. A great spin on an old Spidey concept.

America’s Got Powers #3 (Image)
Arnab: America’s Got Powers is without a doubt one of the best new comic books of the year. If you aren’t reading it, go pick it up. A

Astonishing X-Men #53 (Marvel)
Jeff: Now that Liu is getting to the meat of this story, it’s getting better. Unfortunately, the wedding took this book off-focus.
Infinite Speech: NOW this story is getting interesting! But really guys? You didn’t see the “bomb in the prisoner” thing coming?
NickZ: This maybe my least favorite X-Men book. Well, it’s a close second behind X-Men Legacy.

Batman Incorporated #3 (DC)
Arnab:
Grant Morrison is the master at filling a single issue with a whole lotta story. Chris Burnham is the perfect pairing, as his attention to detail and intricate illustrations enhances the overall story. A

Batman: The Dark Knight #12 (DC)
Arnab: The one thing that prevents this issue from being a complete flop, is the hauntingly gruesome depiction of Scarecrow’s origin. C
NickZ:
Such a darker Scarecrow than we are used to and Finch’s art was hit and miss in this one.

Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan #1 (DC)
NickZ: This is the worst Before Watchmen book by far. Nothing really new to add to the mythos.

Captain America #635.1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: And the point was….?

Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe #4 (Marvel)
Arnab:
If you read Marvel regularly and often contemplate the gruesome and painful deaths of many of the characters, these four issues are perfect for you. A
NickZ: The only thing I liked about this series was how they incorporated Deadpool’s breaking the 4th wall into the story.

Dead World: War of the Dead #4 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: A seriously dark and morbid series with no hope for the humans. Can’t wait for the next issue!

The Flash #12 (DC)
Arnab:
Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato are two of a few creators who have taken an established character, rebooted him, and made him better. A
NickZ: The new Rogues assemble and things don’t look too good for Barry.

G.I. Joe: Cobra #16 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: A breath of fresh air to the G.I. Joe franchise where you never know who will make it out alive in this awesome spy/espionage story!

Invincible #94 (Skybound)
NickZ: Definitely one of the best looking books out there and the story isn’t half bad either. That Kirkman guy knows what he’s doing.

Invincible Iron Man #523 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Dammit Fraction! The story is moving slow but damn I’m ready to see what’s next!

Rachel Rising #10 (Abstract Studios)
Jeff: We finally get the reasons behind Rachel and Jet’s resurrections. Where will more go next with this?

Secret Avengers #30 (Marvel)
Jeff: A motorcycle chase with Taskmaster and Hawkeye written by Remender is exactly what the doctor ordered!
NickZ: For the record, this is the only Avengers team that I actually like.

Spike #1 (Dark Horse)
NickZ: I love Spike so it’s no surprise I loved this book.

Super Dinosaur #13 (Skybound)
NickZ: A great all ages book that keeps both kids and adults entertained. Yeah, from that Kirkman guy again.

Superman #12 (DC)
NickZ: Superman decides he is going to have “more fun” in life, so he goes bungee jumping… I kid you not.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 (IDW)
Andy:
Things are nicely getting back on track. I’m actually not sure how the last page will turn out, but damn! B+
Arnab: Dude. If this ended the way we know it won’t end, that wold be epic. A-

Teen Titans #12 (DC)
Arnab:
Diesel can have Cassie if he wants. Team Tim/Kon all the way! B+
NickZ: Cassie, Tim and Superboy’s love triangle gets an unwanted 4th wheel.

Uncanny X-Men #17 (Marvel)
Arnab: For a while this book was better than Avengers vs. X-Men, and then it wasn’t. But even that can still be blamed on Avengers vs. X-Men, scourge of the Marvel Universe.
Jeff: Well…that was pointless. Can’t wait for Gillen to be off this book.
NickZ: Sinister vs. the Phoenix. Guess who wins? Also, Psylocke is a ninja and DON’T YOU FORGET IT!

Wolverine #312 (Marvel)
Jeff: C’mon, Jeph Loeb! Quit with the Wolverine/Weapon X crap! That story has been told!!!!
NickZ: More secrets about Wolverine’s past are revealed. More importantly, does anyone care anymore?

Wolverine Annual #1 (Marvel)
Jeff: Alan Davis hasn’t missed a beat in the art department all these years, but I had NO idea what was going on in this book.
NickZ: For an annual this was actually pretty good. Better than than the other Wolverine book out this week.

X-Men: Legacy #272 (Marvel)
Jeff: Can you say…”Let’s stretch out a story while we wait for this title to be done?”
Infinite Speech: So, is this World War Rogue? Because that’s what it’s feeling like.
NickZ: See my above post about Astonishing X-Men #53.
