Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 04/09/14

All New Doop #1 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: A fun look behind the scenes of one of Marvel’s stranger characters.
Infinite Speech: After reading this I needed a palette cleanser so I’m glad Lumberjanes came out this week!
NickZ: Yep, pretty much as weird as you expect it to be. Lots of Iceman though, if that’s your thing.

All New Ghost Rider #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: The visual style of this title is great and the story is worth checking out.
Jeff: Tradd Moore’s art is really growing on me, and this new Ghost Rider is awesome!
Dr. Bustos: This series is taking the best parts of a paranormal slasher film and a superhero origin story and mixing them wonderfully and beautifully.

All New Ultimates #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Seemed a bit too formulaic so I hope I hope it picks up in the next few issues.
Jeff: I wanted to like this, but the art was just unbearable.

All New X-Factor #6 (Marvel)
Arnab: While I do miss the old X-Factor cast, this book is totally winning me over.
Infinite Speech: Liking Pietro a LOT in this series and I’m officially on board now!
NickZ: This was some pretty unexpected behavior from Magus and Warlock. I’m glad they didn’t just sweep away Doug’s personal issues from the New Mutants series.

all new xmen 25All New X-Men #25 (Marvel)
Arnab: I’m glad someone in the comics other than Cyclops finally told Beast off. Dude’s an idiot.
Infinite Speech: This issue was worth it to see Uatu give Beast his very informed opinion of him! LMAO!
Jeff: Um…the Watcher is just a creep.
NickZ: There was some great art work in this book. Some worked, some didn’t, but they at least made it sort of make sense. Also, Hank McCoy disgusts me as well.

Astro City #11 (Vertigo)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. A really fun one-shot story featuring the magical side of @KurtBusiek ‘s universe. Great for new readers, too.

Avengers Undercover #2 (Marvel)
Jeff: So how will these characters be undercover if everyone knows who they are?
NickZ: I am totally down with this book. The villain club/bar was pretty awesome and that ending of course makes you want to come back next issue.

Batgirl #30 (DC)
Arnab: Not bad, but not great. Batgirl talking about Dick in the past tense the entire time was weird.
Martin:3.5/5 stars. Not a horrible story, but I missed @GailSimone. And it totally spoils Forever Evil #7 since that was delayed.

Batman: Eternal #1 (DC)
Arnab: This was good, but I feel like no one really needs a weekly comic book.
Dr. Bustos: Batman first appears in power armor and punches a biplane, you have my interest.
Infinite Speech: Very glad this is a weekly title! That image w/ Bruce tied to the Bat signal was just striking!
Jeff Lake: Cool premise, but seriously; isn’t Gordon going through enough already??
Martin: 4/5 stars. Cool to see some focus in the Bat-universe that’s on the regular folks instead of the Capes. A good start.
NickZ: Such a crazy start to this series. The opening page alone tells you this is going to be good.

Bloodshot & HARD Corps #21 (Valiant)
Jeff: This was the best issue of this crossover.

Captain Marvel #2 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: Not usually a fan of space from the Big 2 but DeConnick is making the place a lot of fun.

Constantine #13 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. There’s a total of about Zero consequences from the end of the Forever Evil tie-in. Plus this is just confusing.

Daredevil #1.50 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: A look at some stories that may be, never will, and what the what? Each enjoyable on different levels.
Jeff: I couldn’t even finish this issue. Blergh.

Deadpool #27 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Not worth 9.99 by any means but was a decent read that provided the usual Deadpool laughs.
NickZ: If you are a long time Deadpool reader, this issue was awesome! So many flashback characters, creators and story lines. Was it worth ten bucks? Umm…

Deadworld: Restoration #5 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: Everybody gets double crossed in tthis one!

East of West #11 (Image)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Really insightful looks into the leaders of various nations, plus the introduction of the Endless Nation.

invincible 110Invincible #110 (Image)
Dr. Bustos: I was on the fence with the series for a while and now I’m done with it.
NickZ: Literally this book has the most WTAF, out of the blue, shocking moment in a comic that I have ever read…EVER! I feel violated, and I’m not the only one. I CAN’T EVEN.

Iron Fist: The Living Weapon #1 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: Not my style for Iron Fist. I like him to be a little more upbeat like in Mighty Avengers.
Infinite Speech: Kaare Andrews has me hooked so let’s hope this lasts for quite some time!
Jeff: A fantastic first issue! Kaare Andrews was born to do an Iron Fist book!
Jeff Lake: I already like this take on the character. Martial arts and mystique, I’m in.

lumberjanes 1Lumberjanes #1 (BOOM!)
Dr. Bustos: I’m on board and can’t wait for more.
Infinite Speech: Everyone should read this just to see what a 3 eyed fox looks like and to have some old fashioned comic book fun!
Jeff Lake: A blast from cover to cover. If you like Adventure Time, give this a shot.
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Pure fun. It’s refreshing to read a comic that’s about having fun instead of being so serious. & it’s all ages!

Manifest Destiny #6 (Image)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The first story arc comes to an end and it’s masterful. It seems a bit like the calm before the storm.

Mighty Avengers #9 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: Get some more back story on Blue Marvel and finally learn who Ronin is, enjoyable.
Infinite Speech: The Blue Marvel plot was great but Marvel spoiled the big reveal in this issue months ago so it just felt a little flat.

Nightcrawler #1 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: I do love the blue elf and will see where this goes.
Infinite Speech: So glad that Kurt is back and this issue looks to return to those fun & action packed stories he used to shine in!
Jeff: Oh look, Kurt and Amanda Sefton are going to take on Margali. #overdoneClaremontstory
NickZ: Not exactly what I was hoping for in this series but I’m glad they brought back Amanda Sefton and Rachel and Kurt talking about their Excalibur days was a nice touch. I’ll stick with it and see where it goes.

The Powerpuff Girls #8 (IDW)
NickZ: The girls get their butts in gear and use their brains to win this one in an unexpected way.

Royals: Masters of War #3 (Vertigo)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Spectacular art & an intriguing fresh story with interesting characters. You should be reading this.

Shutter #1 (Image)
Jeff Lake: Another book set in the space faring future; great art, but where’s the story going?

Superboy #30 (DC)
NickZ: Just end already.

The Superior Foes of Spider-Man #11 (Marvel)
NickZ: This was a great issue. Reminded me of the episode of Batman TAS when the villains talk about the times they almost aced Batman except these are the times the Superior Spider-Man almost aced the villains.

Superman/Wonder Women #7 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. 3 artists & a forced Doomsday inclusion don’t do this any favors. See my full review on @ComicAttack.
NickZ: Supes and Wonder Woman regroup and heal after their last explosive date. Meanwhile, Doomsday rises up from the depths.

Unity #6 (Valiant)
Jeff Lake: Dr. Silk is kinda messed up isn’t he? This book is Valiant’s crown jewel.

walking dead 125The Walking Dead #125 (Image)
Arnab: The word “FINALLY” comes to mind.
Jeff: I was hoping that Rick was serious at the end, but that was still a nice surprise.
NickZ: The moment you’ve waited for FINALLY happens. Rick vs. Negan “nuff said!

Worlds’ Finest #22 (DC)
Martin: n/a Once again, since I’m still waiting on Part 3 of “First Contact” to come out, I haven’t read issue #21 yet. Lame.

X #12 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: X is the title others in its genre aspire to be!

Agreed. Fantastic read. Will add this to my pull list and I’m 90% positive there will be a second printing of Issue #1 available in case I can’t find a 1st printing copy.
