Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 03/11/15

Action Comics #40 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Pak & Kuder turn in one of the most fun Superman stories of the New 52 before the Convergence break.

Adventure Time Marceline Gone Adrift #3 (Boom!)
NickZ: What can I say about this issue other than “[INFINITY OF EXPLETIVES]”!

All-New X-Men #37 (Marvel)all new xmen 37
Arnab: Totally misleading cover, but not really a problem because this issue was awesome. I’m seriously hoping this is just Emma being a good teacher.
Infinite Speech: One of the best stories this series has seen in a while! Kudos to Del Mundo for the jaw dropping art as well!
NickZ: I’m not sure how I feel about Emma training Jean Grey. I don’t trust it.

The Amazing Spider-Man #16 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Prepping for an all new arc and I realized how much I missed Anna Maria.
NickZ: Spider-Man fighting a villain while simultaneously dealing with personal issue? Looks like things are back to the Status Quo.

The Amazing Spider-Man Special #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: Loveness and Pizzari did a great job on this book. I can’t wait to see what happens next over in the Inhuman Special.

Astro City #21 (Vertigo)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. The end of one of the best superhero arcs I’ve ever read. Busiek & Anderson masterfully analyze aging supers.

Batman Eternal #49 (DC)
Arnab: Alfred for the win.
Martin: 4/5 stars. Some really great moments with Penny One & Penny Two, but next issue better reveal who is behind everything.
NickZ: Lesson of the day, do not EFF with Jim Gordon or Alfred Pennyworth. Also, can Tim Drake be anymore of a Batman Jr?

Deadpool #43 (Marvel)
NickZ: Deadpool literally bites through his own arm to save people. Suck it James Franco!

Detective Comics Endgame #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Not necessary for the main Endgame story but a fun look at how a group of kids deals with the crisis.
NickZ: A great little story from Buccellato and if I’m not mistaken, perhaps the origin of the Robins series that is forthcoming?

Earth 2 World’s End #22 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. Am I the only one who gets confused between the world destroyers in this title vs. Futures End?

East of West #18 (Image)east of west 18
Arnab: Poor, poor, Babylon. If only his big ol’ gerbil friend was real.
Martin: 4/5 stars. Hickman & Dragotta really know how to make things worse when you already think they’re bad. Poor Babylon.

Howard the Duck #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: Exactly what you would expect from a Howard the Duck book, exactly what you would expect from a Chip Zdarsky story.

Justice League United #10 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. The art is fantastic, but while I thought this arc dragged, it was resolved a bit too quickly.
NickZ: Thank goodness this Infinitus Saga has finished! Why am I still getting this book?

Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man #11 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Bendis & Marquez drop another great issue and finding out your girl is Hydra is a relationship ender.

Mouse Guard: Legends of the Guard Vol 3 #1 (Archaia)
Infinite Speech: This is one of the greatest fantasy anthologies that just keeps getting better with each volume!

New 52 Futures End #45 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Story’s still a mess, but there are some cool Frank/Amethyst scenes & a call-out to an old Kirby fave.

New Avengers #31 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This would be about the one guy I really don’t like in the Marvel U.

ninjak 1 Ninjak #1 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Fantastic introduction for anyone wanting to get into another great series from Valiant!
Martin: 4/5 stars. Pretty fun with some neat cinematic-style fight scenes & enough appropriate world-building and origins.

Rachel Rising #32 (Abstract)
Infinite Speech: It’s criminal how good this series has been with every single issue!

Smallville Continuity #4 (DC)
NickZ: This finale was perfect in every way. I have so many feels right now! I can’t even.

Spawn: Resurrection #1 (Image)
Infinite Speech: The only other perfect jumping on point is Spawn #1! So get this and see what the new creative team is doing!

Spider-Gwen #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Much better than the first issue and I’m going to stick with this for a while.
NickZ: Much better than the first issue, my hope in this book has been restored! Way to go Latour and Rodriquez!

Spider-Man 2099 #10 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: I love seeing the villain’s trophy rooms and does anyone else think that Maestro looks like Kimbo Slice?
NickZ: Holy S***! Maestro is on the loose in current day New Mexico. I wonder if this has anything to do with Secret Wars?

Spider-Man and the X-Men #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: My only explanation for the X-Men’s retarded behavior is that this book takes place in an alternate reality or something of that nature.

Star Wars #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Vader takes out an Imperial Walker and the series is getting better.
NickZ: Aaron and Cassaday continue to kill it on this Star Wars book!

Thor #6 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Freya slaps the Hel out of Odin and it’s about time someone did!

The Walking Dead #138 (Image)
Arnab: This is one of those times where I can see where Carl is coming from, and he sorta may be right, but I still think he’s an idiot and not using the right head.
NickZ: I think these Whisperer people are even more F***ed up than the cannibals. I don’t trust any of it. Also, Carl needs to stop thinking with his other head.

Wolverines #10 (Marvel)
NickZ: This book has literally no point any longer. It is just plain stupid.

Worlds’ Finest #32 (DC)
Martin: Not bad for a finale. Cover is fantastic. Dougherty’s art style doesn’t always match story’s grimness.
