Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 12/12/12

Adventure Time: Marceline and the Scream Queens #6 (kaboom!)
Dr. Bustos: Marceline finally confronts her insecurity and thus ends the comic but not the adventure. B-

Age of Apocalypse #10 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Not having any more fun with this so I’m done.
Jeff: The tone and look of this book is great, but the plot continues at a snail’s pace!

Amazing Spider-Man #699.1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Nice bit of background on Morbius but nothing else.
Jeff: A nice intro to Morbius and tied-in well to current story.

Ame-Comi Girls Featuring Duela Dent #3 (DC)
Andy: This series has been enjoyable. I’m surprised, too. (2.5/5)

Archer & Armstrong #5 (Valiant)
Andy: This book’s dialogue is some of the best in comics right now. Everyone sounds like an individual. (4.5/5) #Valiant
Infinite Speech:
This is why I keep reading comics!
Jeff: I was worried that this new arc would take a dive, but Van Lente and Luppachino knocked it out of the park!

Artifacts #23 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech:
Great decision to make this an ongoing and an even better one to make Tom Judge the star!

Avengers Arena #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Somewhere @ChristosGage is screaming “NOOOOOOOO!” It’s OK though — I was, too. (4/5) #Avengers #MarvelNOW
Jeff: Finally, an Arcade I can get on board with! Sure, the concept isn’t new, but it hasn’t been done in a Marvel book like this!

Avengers Assemble #10 (Marvel)
Andy: DeConnick has found these characters’ voices, making for a fun read. (3/5) #Avengers #MarvelNOW

Batgirl #15 (DC)
Arnab: I’m a little confused as to why Barbara is mad at James Jr. He’s a psychopath, for sure, but in this case he sent her to her kidnapped mother. 4.5/5
Andy: Weak sauce. Especially following #13 & 14. (2/5)

Batman #15 (DC)
Andy: Bruce is truly shaken here and it’s great. Loved the Riddler back up story. (4/5) #Batman
Arnab: It’s almost like Joker’s right. Almost. Bruce is clearly not thinking straight. Loved seeing the Riddler. 5/5
Infinite Speech: Art snafu aside still a very solid issue though it’s mostly the bat family standing around arguing.
Jeff: This is what I want in a Batman comic! The Joker is in everyone’s head!

Batman and Robin #15 (DC)
Andy: Successfully pulls off the creepy factor in both art and writing. A must-read “Death of the Family” tie-in. (4.5/5) #Batman
Arnab: While that last issue was ruined because of the tie-in, this issue revels in Joker’s filth. 4.5/5

Battlefields: The Green Fields Beyond #2 (Dynamite)
Andy: Unless you’re English or a war buff, skip it. I had no clue what the fuck anyone said. (1.5/5) #Battlefields

Bloodshot #6 (Valiant)
Andy: Some spectacular finishing moves in this issue, and a last page that’ll have you reading Harbinger. (4.5/5) #Valiant #Bloodshot
Infinite Speech: So. Damn. Fun!

Cable & X-Force #1 (Marvel)
Andy: I dig the cast but are we really going back to THAT again? Wish all that ended with the needle in Colossus’ arm. (3/5) #Cable #MarvelNOW
Arnab: Deadpool should leave the Thunderbolts and join Team Cable, that’d make this book perfect. 4/5
Infinite Speech: Once we’re done with the Cable/Hope reunion things should get better.
Jeff: The layout of this plot was strange. And what’s up with Cable’s arm?

Caligula: Heart of Rome #1 (Avatar)
Andy: Not for the feint of heart — this book will skull fuck you. (3.5/5) #Caligula

Change #1 (Image)
Andy: I… didn’t get it. Cool sci-fi art, though. At times. (1.5/5) #Change #scifi

Clone #2 (Image)
Andy: Woah — where the heck did this series come from? Strong art, a killer twist and an original spin on the theme. READ THIS! (5/5) #Clone

Conan the Barbarian #11 (Dark Horse)
Andy: Really into this book — vulnerable Conan is a much more layered Conan. (3.5/5) #Conan

Criminal Macabre/30 Days of Night: Final Night #1 (Dark Horse)
Andy: My first foray into either franchise — I didn’t expect it to be this good. (4/5) #CriminalMacabre #vampires

The Crow: Skinning The Wolves #1 (IDW)
Infinite Speech:
MUCH better than the previous Crow series from IDW.

Dark Avengers #184 (Marvel)
Andy: I want this team back in the 616. (2.5/5) #Avengers #MarvelNOW

Fantastic Four #2 (Marvel)
Andy: As a family man, I can get behind this series. Can’t wait to witness the looming disaster! (3/5) #FantasticFour #MarvelNOW
Jeff: Ok, leave already! Talk about dragging out a plot!

Fanboys vs. Zombies #9 (Boom! Studios)
Arnab: Farewell Sam Humphries, you shall be missed. Also, Rob and Burger are back! 4.5/5

Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. #15 (DC)
Andy: Alberto Ponticelli saved his best work for last. More people need to give Frank a chance! (4/5) #Frankenstein
Dr. Bustos: We get a giant sword made of robots, Frankenstein army of Frankenstein-people, and a future to come. A

The Hollows #1 (IDW)
Andy: Didn’t know what to expect and walked away interested. Cool stuff — very different. (3.5/5) #Hollows

Iron Man #4 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
Where is this going?

Mega Man #20 (Archie)
Andy: A cool end of the year issue setting up what’s coming next. As Mega Man comics go, this is a fun read! (2.5/5)

Scarlet Spider #12 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
With the crossover finished we’re back to solid Scarlet Spider action and fun!

Suicide Squad #15 (DC)
Andy: The worst “Death of the Family” tie-in. I get the feeling someone, somewhere “liked” this issue a little too much. (1/5)

Superboy #15 (DC)
Andy: This whole thing could have been 5 pages. (1/5) #Superboy

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #17 (IDW)
Arnab: My knowledge of this part of the TMNT universe isn’t so great, and I like it like that. This series is beyond fun. 4/5
Andy: Super pumped for sci-fi Turtles & more Ben Bates art. Also, Neutrino men are a race of dudes with Elvis hair. (3.5/5) #TMNT
Infinte Speech: Not too big on the art but the story is still kicking ass!

To Hell You Ride #1 (Dark Horse)
Andy: Surprisingly well done. Fans of westerns, horror & the American West should give it a go. (4/5) #Hell

Ultimate Comics X-Men #20 (Marvel)
Andy: The best issue of Wood’s run so far. I wish it was his own thing and not an X-book, though. (3/5) #XMen

The Walking Dead #105 (Image)
Andy: Holy fucking shit. Intense. (5/5) #WalkingDead
Arnab: What. The. F. Negan is flippin’ crazy as F. Carl removing his bandages was disgusting as F. And then Carl crying was heartbreaking as F. 5/5
Jeff: Forget the Governor, Negan is messed up.

Wolverine #317 (Marvel)
Jeff: I’m just a sucker for Wolverine’s original costume. And Paul Pelletier.
Andy: I like the cosmic implications for things to come in Marvel NOW! (3/5) #Wolverine

The issue with Cable’s arm was explained, Jeff. It’s atrophied due to the techno virus and hardly being used all of his life. So Forge built him another to kind of go around/on top of it so it’s actually useful.
