Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 03/21/18

Avengers #685 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Hulk just came through and kicked everyone’s a** and Wonder Man wants to talk?

Batman #43 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Sejic should have drawn this issue when you consider what the outcome was.
Martin: 4/5 stars. It’s actually cool to see the side of the villain who does really think he/she is doing “the right thing,” and have that reasoning make sense. Great character work, both from an art and a story standpoint.

Batman/TMNT II #5 (DC/IDW)
Infinite Speech: Way too much talking in this issue and we didn’t get to see a crazed Splinter emerge from the Lazarus Pit.

Brave & the Bold #2 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. The art is still gorgeous and perfectly fits the fantasy setting. Storywise, while I like the idea, there’s way too much narration and telling, not showing. It’s also odd that WW & Batman don’t meet until the end of this chapter.

Doctor Strange: Damnation #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Hell of a time to get your curse lifted. Cates and Spencer are writing one great series and I don’t even like Strange all that much.

Iron Fist #78 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Tie-in to Damnation and we get Fat Cobra and another character from Danny’s past!

Justice League #41 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Christopher Priest should delivers superhero action and a complexity that shows why he’s one of the best in the business!
Martin: 4/5 stars. To be honest, when I first saw promos that the JL was going to fight “evil Black Panther,” I was less than impressed. However, the execution was much more nuanced and complex than I expected.

Kick-Ass #2 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Looks like Patience is off to a great start but might get in over her head soon. Still worth reading regardless of if you’re familiar with the original.

Lucy Dreaming #1 (Boom! Studios)
Martin: 4/5 stars. A fun, creative introduction to a new space-fantasy world, with a very likable and compelling main character. Highly recommended. See my detailed review on @ComicAttack here: https://comicattack.net/2018/03/boom-studios-reviews-lucy-dreaming-1/

Mighty Thor #705 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: I had a Florida Evans moment after reading this even though I’ve known for months this is coming.

Ninjak #5 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Tomas Giorello and Diego Rodriguez have made this arc one of the best looking stories in comics!

Summit #4 (Lion Forge)
Infinite Speech: The underlying theme in most of the Catalyst Prime books is DON’T TRUST LORENA!

Superb #8 (Lion Forge)
Infinite Speech: Lives up to it’s title issue after issue! Still wish there was just one artist and colorist on this but looks fine nonetheless.

Super Sons #14 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. A good issue that focuses on what it does best – showcasing the Damian and Jon relationship and how they make a good team despite their differences.

Superman #43 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. People complain about Bizarro-speak, but after a page or two, it becomes much easier. While I think the Bizarro-World parts are too dark, I really liked the inclusion of Maya Ducard (aka “Nobody”), whom I have missed since the pre-Rebirth Robin series.

Usagi Yojimbo: The Hidden #1 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Stan Sakai kills it once again with his legendary creation!
