Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 02/19/14

47 Ronin HC (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Richardson and Sakai tell this classic story in superb fashion and it should be part of your collection without a doubt!

Amazing X-Men #4 (Marvel)
Jeff: Had to bite my lip to hold back the tears when Kurt found Logan in the snow.
Infinite Speech: The origin of the Bamfs, a tender moment, and some good ole swashbucklin’!!! Another really fun issue!

Arcane Secrets #2 (Amigo)
@DecapitatedDan: I love the playfulness of this Lovecraftian tale. It’s fun, and yet serious at the same time. What a great comic! 4.5/5

Avengers World #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Shang Chi should have channeled Bruce Lee and Donnie Yen to help with that fight. Now he’s falling to his doom.

Batman & Two-Face #28 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. Honestly I’m tired of this storyline. Thank goodness it’s over. The ending was a bit shocking, though.

Constantine #11 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. And… we’re back to the Blight stuff. At least Constantine takes center stage here & shows his true colors.

extinction parade 5Extinction Parade #5 (Avatar)
@DecapitatedDan: Soooooo damn good. These past two issues have shown me how great Brooks is as a writer. I am soooo loving this series, and those fight scene were drop dead GORE-Geous! 5/5

God is Dead #7 (Avatar)
@DecapitatedDan: Love the new direction, and loved the backup story. I know it’s not for everyone, but it’s for me. So many characters to play with, should make it last a while. 4.5/5
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. A brand new story arc in a future ruled by the last surviving “god” from the last arc. An interesting twist.

Harley Quinn #3 (DC)
Infinite Speech: So glad this is beating some of my expectations and it looks like I’m sticking around a bit longer!

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe #10 (DC)
Infinite Speech: The ending was AWESOME! However, Abnett has drastically changed the tone of the dialogue here and it’s not as much fun.

Jericho: Season 4 #5 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: The extensive time between issues is not helping at all.

Justice League #28 DC)
Martin: 5/5 stars. I can’t remember the last time I had this much FUN reading a New 52 title. We need more like this one.

Kings Watch #4 (Dynamite Entertainment)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The action really ramps up this issue. Tons of cool creatures, magic, & crazy tech. Pure pulp fun.

Loki: Ragnarok and Roll #1 (BOOM!)
Jeff Lake: Amusing and (mostly) original, this was a fun read. I love me some Loki.
Martin: 4/5 stars. A fun look at versions of Thor & Loki that aren’t so serious. Plus an awesome dinner table scene in Asgard.

New Warriors #1 (Marvel)
Jeff: Not a bad start. Good introductions to all the characters.
Infinite Speech: Great intro so I’m in for a few more issues.

notld 3Night of the Living Deadpool #3 (Marvel)
Arnab: This ended so utterly sad and depressing.
@DecapitatedDan:
Awesome, love where this issue went, and I don’t think it could have been done any better. What a great mini series. 4.5/5
Infinite Speech: I still can’t believe I read this.

Nova #13 (Marvel)
Jeff: Beta Ray Bill and Nova sure chummed up pretty quickly.

Punisher #2 (Marvel)
Jeff: Not quite as tight as the first issue, but I’ll give it a couple more.

Quantum and Woody #8 (Valiant)
Jeff Lake: Writer Asmus has some of the best one-liners in comics. Still miss Fowler on art though.
Infinite Speech: Read Quantum and Woody because there is NO reason not to!

Red Hood and the Outlaws #28 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Nice to come back to a fun issue that reminded me of why I liked this series in the first place. Hope it lasts.

Red Sonja #7 (Dynamite)

Jeff Lake: Simone’s take on the character is pitch perfect. Never in a million years did I expect to like this book this much.

Savage Wolverine #15 (Marvel)
Jeff: Each of Isanove’s panels could be put on display in an art gallery.

Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi – Force War #4 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: HOLY CRAP! Ostrander & Duursema continue to push the Star Wars universe beyond excellent!

Terminator: Enemy of my Enemy #1 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Looks like this is going to be another great installment in the Terminator franchise right here!

Trinity of Sin: Pandora #8 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Less a Pandora-story & more of a Justice League Dark extension. And more “light of the world” stuff.

Uncanny X-Men #17 (Marvel)
Arnab: Maybe now they’ll start to take things more seriously.
Jeff:
So, they’re gonna kick Hijack off the team because he made a mistake on his first field mission that they didn’t train him for? What is wrong with the X-Men these days?
Infinite Speech: Wow. I actually agree with something Cyclops did. That hasn’t happened in a long time.

Undertow #1 (Image)
Jeff Lake: This one left me mixed. Well crafted, but almost too busy. On the fence for issue #2.
Infinite Speech: Not too sure about this one. Story and art seemed a bit chaotic at times but there’s something I liked nonetheless.

Unity #4 (Valiant)

Jeff Lake: Oh no she didn’t! Hell of an issue, though what happens now? Braithwaite’s art is so damn good.
Infinite Speech: YES! YES! YES! Unity is another great title from Valiant that you should be reading!!

white suits 1The White Suits #1 (Dark Horse)

Jeff Lake: A solid debut made better by the ridiculous visuals courtesy of Toby Cypress. Dark Horse is stepping up.
Infinite Speech: WOW! Didn’t know what to expect and I’m so glad I opened this one up!

X-Men #11 (Marvel)
Arnab: Clay Mann should be drawing this whole book.
Jeff: I’m just not getting why this book exists.
Infinite Speech: So, I pretty much paid for only FIVE pages of fun?? WTF??

Zombie Tramp Vol. 2 #1 (Action Lab)
@DecapitatedDan: She’s back, and she is hungry for more action! I’m so happy to see the GORE-Geous Janey back in comics. Mendoza makes comics fun to read! 4.5/5
