Character Spotlight: Blackhawk Squadron

Even in worlds with heroes in capes and masks, there is still plenty of room for people who do the extraordinary in trying times. The Blackhawks Squadron are a group of soldiers who do what they do best, fight Nazis. A sentiment worth getting behind and unfortunately prescient. So what sets the Blackhawks apart from other units? Let’s find out!

Janos Prohaska was a veteran pilot of the Polish Air Force by the time of World War 2. He would fight against the Nazi invasion but he would lose his younger brother and sister during the invasion. Janos would vow revenge for them and would create a force to be reckoned with, the Blackhawk Squadron. Though it was originally just Janos as Blackhawk, it turns out there are many people who want to take the fight to the Nazis directly.

Soon, where once was just one man, stood many, fighting against the Axis forces on all fronts. More people would hear of the Blackhawk Squadron and wish to join. Even masked heroes were envious of the Blackhawks but due to bizarre occult artefacts, anyone with genuine powers beyond that of mortals were at risk of being forced under the control of the Third Reich. The Blackhawk Squadron were able to meet with heroes such as the Justice Society but had to keep their distance from Germany. The Blackhawk Squadron was one of the few organizations capable to fight the most bizarre threats in the war.

While Janos became known simply as Blackhawk, almost forsaking his and his team’s old names to further the cause that anyone could be a Blackhawk, and very well could be. He also had a diverse amount of people from all over the world joining the Squadron. One such member was Lady Blackhawk, a title several women would have over the years. This happened not because they would all die, but some times the Blackhawks would get time tossed and the Squadron would fight well beyond World War 2.

As the years went on different members would retire and others would join in. The Blackhawks became an institution. Often spending their time as spies for the world at large in helping stop any threats from reaching World War threat status.

There you have it! While the Blackhawk Squadron have been around since the actual war they fought in. They’ve been on the small screen in animation, on the big screen as serials and may still become a film, and even a radio show.  Fair warning, there is a team member who is a racist caricature of a Chinese person, Chop-Chop/Chopper. Stories from this era have a terrible habit of doing this and try to right them years later with varied results. See you next time.
