Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 02/27/13

Artifacts #25 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech:
Good guys getting their asses kicked never looked so good! Magdalena’s new outfit isn’t half bad either!

Aquaman #17 (DC)
NickZ: Life for Aquaman is pretty ruff. He is not trusted by the surface world, not accepted by his people and even his woman won’t stand by his side.

Astonishing X-Men #59 (Marvel)
Arnab: Bah. I wish someone would just send AoA Nightcrawler back to whence he came. And if they send Wolverine with him, all the better. B-
Jeff: A great prelude to this upcoming X-Termination crossover.
NickZ: This will actually make you feel for Alt-Nightcrawler and even Wolverine, despite the fact that he’s a douche.

Avengers Arena #5 (Marvel)
Jeff: There’s nothing about this title I don’t like. This concept just works so well.
NickZ: I must say this is the best Avengers book currently out there! Don’t miss it!

Avenging Spider-Man #17 (Marvel)
Jeff: I love seeing Paco Medina on this book. Wish he was the regular artist on Superior Spidey.
NickZ: The Superior Spider-Man gets stuck babysitting the Future Foundation! Hijinks ensue!

Batman Incorporated vol.2 #8 (DC)
Arnab: Damian brought light to a dark and grim Gotham. Maybe not at the beginning, when he was all broody and sinister-like, but when he became Robin everything changed. A+
Dr. Bustos: Awwww, dang. A
NickZ: Just when I was starting to like him…

Batman The Dark Knight #17 (DC)
Arnab: “Nope. Still here.” Hilarious! B+
NickZ: Maybe the funniest, most random Batman/ Commissioner Gordon moment ever takes place in this issue.

Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan #4 (DC)
NickZ: A brilliant exchange between Adrian and Dr. Manhattan with dramatic switches in perspective. Very clever.

Deadpool Killustrated #2 (Marvel)
Arnab: Deadpool vs. Sherlock. My money’s on the merc.
NickZ:
Deadpool kills more classic, literary characters while Sherlock Holmes gathers a team tailored to stop him.

Doctor Who #6 (IDW)
Jeff: The art in this issue was so flat and unappealing.

FF #4 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: A date issue I truly enjoyed, hilarious and a creepy ending. A
Jeff: What is Medusa up to?

Five Weapons #1 (Image)
Infinite Speech:
A near perfect start to what is sure to be a lot of fun! Too bad it’s only 5 issues though.

The Flash #17 (DC)
Arnab: Manapul and Buccellato continue their impressive run as Iris finds her way back into Barry’s life. A
Dr. Bustos: I hope the city has to deal with an influx of gorilla citizens. B-
NickZ: Many outstanding story lines get resolved in this issue as a new threat emerges.

Gambit #9 (Marvel)
Arnab: When Clay Mann draws this book, it’s like magic. A
Dr. Bustos: I want to hang out in the villain bar, that place is hysterical. B
Jeff: The more this book deals with the seedy underbelly of the Marvel Universe, the better.
NickZ: Nine issues in and I have yet to get bored with this book and I don’t even like Gambit very much.

Hawkeye #8 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: Love the romance comic covers through out the issue. A

Guardians of the Galaxy #0.1 (Marvel)
Arnab:
I loved everything about this, except for Iron Man. B+
Infinite Speech: Everything was great until I saw Iron Man.
Jeff: I’m really liking this Spielberg-esque take on Marvel Cosmic.

Masks #4 (Dynamite Entertainment)
Infinite Speech:
Loved this in the beginning but it’s starting to lose me.

Ravine #1 (Image/Top Cow)
Infinite Speech:
This should come with a warning label due to Sejic’s face melting artwork!

Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi – Prisoner of Bogan #3 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech:
I’m pretty sure the good guys are about to get their butts handed to them next issue.

Talon #5 (DC)
NickZ: If you liked the Court of Owls story in Batman, you must read this series. It has good stories, characters, and amazing art.

Teen Titans #17 (DC Comics)
Arnab:
I don’t even know where to start. Hopefully the next issue sorts this mess up. C+
Infinite Speech:
WTF?
NickZ: This issue had a great cover….and that’s about it.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Secret History of the Foot Clan #3 (IDW)
Arnab:
Hot damn diggity, this book is awesome. A
Infinite Speech:
Dare I say that this is the best TMNT series of ALL TIME! YES I DARE SAY IT!!

Thunderbolts #5 (Marvel)
Arnab: This series is nearing its end for me.
NickZ: A lot of killing goes down in this issue.

Uncanny Avengers #4 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: So, yeah…all of that stuff happened. Then that forced shocked ending that won’t make sense until later on. Aren’t you glad you spent four bucks on this?
Jeff: Well…that went nowhere. And that last page…who really cares?
NickZ: I am seriously on the fence about this book. It looks like it has cool potential but I’m just not feeling it yet.

Uncanny Skullkickers #1 (Image)
Infinite Speech:
I should have only picked up 3 “Uncanny” books this week and this definitely is one that’s worth it!

Uncanny X-Force #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: So, Is Fantomex sexing his female clone? And if so…ewwwww…..kinda?
Jeff: Nope…this one is not impressing me.
NickZ: This book was really awesome. I liked it a lot more than the first issue, which wasn’t bad either. The art is great too!

Uncanny X-Men #2 (Marvel)
Arnab:
I have very little doubt that Scott is going to wipe the floor with Magneto when the time comes. A
Infinite Speech:
Oh, Magneto how I like your scheming and double crossing from the shadows. Reminds me of the good ole days.
Jeff: I love the guy with the golden balls. Wait, I can’t believe I just said that.
NickZ: Did Bendis actually get ME to feel bad for Emma!?! Great issue even though not much goes down.

X-Men Legacy #6 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Another veiled hint at the destruction of all Mutantkind? The X-Men just allow Legion to just walk free? Ugh, my eyes and brain are mad at me for reading this issue.
Jeff: This book had so much potential, but having read the first arc, I say do NOT buy this.
NickZ: I am really digging this book too! Legion is such a great character in the right hands. Can’t wait for what’s next!

X-Treme X-Men #11 (Marvel)
NickZ: I’m glad this book is coming to an end. Not my cup of tea even though it’s pretty nuts.

Young Avengers #2 (Marvel)
Arnab: The youthful, modern energy of this book is wonderful. I’m quite glad it’s nothing like the original because it makes not comparing the two much easier. A
NickZ:
Not a bad second issue, not a great one either.
