Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 03/06/13

47 Ronin #3 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech:
If you are a fan of stories about feudal Japan and samurai then you should have this in your collection!

Adventure Time! with Fionna and Cake #3 (kaboom!)
Dr. Bustos: I think we’d all like to ride around in a baby sling under a giant cat that loves us. A
NickZ: So much fun! I can’t believe this series is already halfway over.

A+X #5 (Marvel)
Jeff: This book is an absolute joke. The Iron Fist/Doop story wasn’t even trying.
NickZ: I don’t get the appeal of Doop. There, I said it!

Age of Apocalypse #13 (Marvel)
Jeff: X-Termination is gearing up to be a pretty good crossover.
NickZ: Things are looking pretty good in the AoA universe… you just know that can’t last.

Age of Ultron #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Is there a future where the heroes even kind of win?
Jeff: I don’t know what’s going on here, but I really, really like it!

All-New X-Men #8 (Marvel)
Arnab: Wow, it only took 8 issues to get me to not like Jean. Fascinating. A
Infinite Speech: Angel wants out and Jean gets a bit creepy. This has now become my favorite X-Men book!
Jeff: Please don’t turn Jean into Phoenix, PLEASE!
NickZ: So is young Jean Grey the new Cyclops? Ironic.

Animal Man #18 (DC)
Arnab: Dude. Cliff was all kinds of awesome. A
Dr. Bustos: Awww, the cover told me it was tragic but it still got me. B+

Avengers #7 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
Getting…bored…and sleepy. Maybe it will read better as a collected volume.

Batman: Detective Comics #18 (DC)
Arnab: That Robin scene had no business here. B+
NickZ: This was more of a Penguin story than a mourn Robin story as the cover leads you to believe.

Batwing #18 (DC Comics)
Infinite Speech:
Really, Batwing 2.0?? I really hope Palmiotti and Gray turn this around.
NickZ: Witness the birth of the “Superior” Batwing?

Bedlam #5 (Image)
Arnab: This book is Nick Spencer at his very best. Fillmore is the modern day Alex (A Clockwork Orange), but smarter, more sadistic, and a fuckton creepier. A
Jeff: Now that’s the Fillmore I want to see. This book got back on track.

Before Watchmen: Rorschach #4 (DC)
NickZ: A good series if you are a fan of Rorschach. Skip it if you are not.

Cable & X-Force #5 (Marvel)
Arnab: Another fantastic issue from this group of supremely talented folks. This is one of the best team books on the market. A
Infinite Speech: Colossus is one of the most noble characters out there and I’m actually digging this title.
Jeff: This book is actually getting really fun. I’m loving the Forge/Nemesis relationship.
NickZ: Domino will pretty much sleep with anyone, right?

Daredevil: End of Days #6 (Marvel)
Jeff: I wish this was an ongoing series. A Daredevil book with no Daredevil is awesome!

Fairy Quest #2 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: It was over too quickly and I can’t wait to read more!
Jeff: Humberto Ramos draws an awesome Captain Hook.

Green Arrow #18 (DC)
Arnab: Is it just me or does it feel like DC characters are dropping left and right? What’s up with that? A-
Dr. Bustos: The daughter of this villain is the creepiest part of this whole story. B

I Love Trouble #4 (Image)
Infinite Speech: If you’re not liking this book then you’re not having fun in comics.
Jeff: I love how the cover is also the first page. This book continues to kick so much ass.

Iron Man #7 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
So is Iron Man more interesting off planet? These last two issues certainly prove that.

Legend of the Shadow Clan #2 (Aspen)
Infinite Speech:
I’m so upset that I didn’t pick this up. Don’t be like me.

Mara #3 (Image)
Arnab: This book has everything. Super powers? Check. Intelligent writing? Check. Gorgeous artwork? Check. Better yet, it has all that stuff with a contemporary touch. A
Dr. Bustos: It took a bit of time (which was enjoyable) the story seems to be kicking into gear. A

Red She-Hulk #63 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: I would totally watch that TV show at the beginning of this issue if it were real. A

Road to Oz #6 (Marvel)
Jeff: Baum’s imagination was crazy, but Skottie Young drawing things from that imagination is even crazier.

Shadowman #5 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech:
Nice set up issue but I’m gonna need things to pick back up again soon.

Smallville Season Eleven #11 (DC)
NickZ: Jay Garrick makes his Smallville debut and Superman wears a cool new costume.

Superior Spider-Man #5 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: DAMN! Well, doing that will definitely get you fired from the Avengers!
Jeff: So…..what happened to Massacre?
NickZ: Am I the only one who doesn’t want Peter to come back…EVER?

Superman #17 (DC)
NickZ: As usual with any Superman story, H’el on Earth was pretty lame.

Witchblade #164 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech:
Only picked it up because it’s in the “Progeny” crossover but I’m damn glad I did! Jackie hit Sara with a serious bombshell in this one!

Willow Wonderland #5 (Dark Horse)
NickZ: In a quest to bring magic back to Earth, Willow gets her solution in a very “Wizard of OZ” kinda way.
