In this economy, everybody is feeling the squeeze. Apparently even CIA operatives that kill for a living get tossed aside due to budget cuts, too. This brings us to the story of Jacob Mars. A good looking fellow that has a big problem – keeping his pants on. Well, that’s not his only problem now, since he has three ex-wives, and alimony payments that are nothing short of extravagant. How can he make the money he needs to, without his normal everyday job? He could take on jobs that are off the books and require his special attributes. The riskier the job, the bigger the paycheck, and that’s not the only reason to do it. You can also add the beautiful women into the mix, as well! They’re his weakness, and apparently his only one as you will witness this James Bond-esque man of mystery take down anybody that gets in his way of collecting his paycheck!
All right, well, I’m going to be brutally honest here. This book is basically a James Bond porno put into graphic novel form. It does have some good elements of mystery and story, but the insanely high volume of sex (real and innuendo) does seem to take its credibility down a notch. If that’s what they were aiming for, then mission accomplished. But if they wanted a serious straight up book, which I can’t imagine they did, that didn’t happen. There were some really good scenes that portrayed the main character as a cool, pistol packing guy that shouldn’t be messed with. Almost like Charles Bronson or Clint Eastwood in one of their “tough guy” movies.
The artwork was certainly the strong suit for this book. A sleek, glossy cover, and inside pages that matched. Vibrant colors and voluptuous women adorn the pages of this graphic novel, along with tons of guns and even a bazooka! The cover, while very racy, is exactly the kind of quality every book should strive for. It jumps off of the shelf with its glossy finish. Other than the guy looking like Anthony Michael Hall, it’s fantastic!
Overall, this book has its strong points and weak ones, as well, but if you’re looking for a mature read, with elements of action, mystery, and lots of naked chicks, then this is the book for you. If that isn’t your thing, don’t bother. Rating 2/5
