Venom Movie in the Works?

Hot off the presses is news that director Gary Ross (Big, Pleasantville, Seabiscuit) was tapped to rewrite the script for the Venom spin off movie according to Variety. Topher Grace is not expected to return as Eddie Brock in this film and no release date has been set.
venom-20070502010747513_640wOK, so I just found out about this today, and I have to say I am less than thrilled about the news. I can’t see Venom pulling his weight in a movie as the main character; he’s just not that interesting. I know there are going to be Venom-ites that will have to disagree, but too many people told me they thought Spider-Man 3 sucked partly because of Venom. I personally think it was mostly bad casting, but the special effects in the Venom scenes were nothing to write home about either. Most people that aren’t comic geeks won’t give this one a try, and that means doom at the box office. I honestly would go to this movie if it had an A-lister as the lead and showed some back story on the symbiote, but I doubt that’s gonna happen. Well, it wouldn’t be the first superhero movie to flop, and I’m quite sure not the last. I made a poll at the bottom for kicks; personally I think it won’t ever see the light of day.  CBR broke this so here’s the link to the article, enjoy! http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=23223

It’s hard to say if this character could stand alone. With the right cast and director it could be an ok spinoff of Spiderman.

I think I’ll wait for the DVD, if it ever comes.

As long as they get someone other than Topher Grace…. He really weakened Spidey 3.

all financing and spending for the supposed production of this film should be donated to charity. At least that way people will get something out of it

I’m aware I’m in the minority here, but Spider-Man 3 was actually my favorite of the Spider-Man trilogy. I didn’t really get the whole ‘new goblin’ thing, but I also didn’t like the goblin in part 1. That being said, I don’t believe Venom is a strong enough character to support an entire film. I would however, like to see a movie adaptation of ‘What if #44: What if venom possessed the Punisher.’ That would be badass! *both fingers crossed*
