As the death of a Geomancer sets The Eternal Warrior on his quest to kill Archer, we are introduced to the successor who has yet to realize who and what she is. Kay McHenry is a spokeswoman for Zorn Capital, and aside from being self absorbed, empty, and maybe a bit crazy, she’s about to be thrown into a whole new world. Archer and Armstrong are on the trail of the new Geomancer, but don’t know who it will be, while trying to stay a few steps ahead of Armstrong’s brother who is very determined to kill them both.
The title characters take a back seat as Van Lente introduces us to the new Geomancer in this issue. This doesn’t deter from the story one bit, since we continue to get great dialog and rich characterization throughout. By the time Archer and Armstrong do show up, we get that seamless blend of humor, action, and drama that Van Lente has done so well these past six issues. He’s infused the characters and their story with so much excitement that you’re already anticipating the next issue as soon as you’re finished reading. And if the story doesn’t suck you in, then the artwork definitely will. It’s been consistently strong since the beginning, and Lupacchino does a fine job moving the story from panel to panel.
Archer & Armstrong is the complete package when it comes to comics, and has been one of the best reintroductions of a series to hit the shelves. You’ll never know what to expect with this title, but be certain that you’ll enjoy whatever this creative team is throwing at you!
