The Comics Console: Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds Announcement!

Ten years ago, the worlds of comics and video games came to together and brought us Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes.  With a huge cast of characters (56 in total) from both franchises, this game was a dream come true and to this day is regarded as one of the best 2D fighters ever.

Now I’m just as excited to hear that Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds is a reality for the next gen systems, with a projected Spring release in 2011!  So far we have six confirmed characters, and they are Hulk, Wolverine, and Iron Man for the Marvel side, and Ryu (Street Fighter), Morrigan (Darkstalkers), and Chris Redfield (Resident Evil) from the Capcom side.  So far 30 fighters in total are to be in the game.  N0w, this doesn’t bother me too much, as the roster will probably be increased when the game is closer to completion or new characters will be released via DLC (Downloadable Content).

Just thinking of the match possibilities is givin’ me goosebumps, since I’m definitely hoping for a Power Man and Iron Fist team up to slap around some Capcom guys, or even use Ibuki and Mega Man to dominate some Marvel team!  Since the game is still in development, there aren’t many details yet, and whether or not it’s going to have 2-on-2 or 3-on-3 matches hasn’t been confirmed; but the company is going for a “comic book” look for the game, but with a little more polish than what we saw in the last game.  Ten years between sequels is a long time, but I think it helps here because Capcom has developed quite a few games and characters within that time period, and since Hollywood has been pumping out more comic based movies the past few years, the Marvel characters are getting more and more attention outside of their usual fan base.  This will only add to the depth of the roster for both sides and give the fans their money’s worth with this one here.

I’m sure we’ll have more on this game as things are brought to light, but for now you can check out the trailer here at Marvel’s site!  And yes Andrew, dreams DO come true!

Hulk vs. Iron Man, every time. Just so I can watch WWHulk over and over again.

I’m hoping that’s Deadpool’s shadow down in the bottom left corner of the pic! The guy has two swords and it looks like it could be Pool…maybe?

@Speech- I’m sure it isn’t Deadpool. Such an underused character like him won’t get the spotlight.

I remember playing this game endlessly on the dreamcast back in the day, goodtimes.

I played MvC: 2 on my dreamcast as well and it was actually one of the best games on the system. Who knew we’d have to wait a little over 10 years for the sequal lol
