The Comics Console: Comic Con 2012!

Last week, in the days leading to Comic Con 2012, a little rumor slipped about Rocksteady Studio’s next Batman game possibly being a prequel and maybe involving the Justice League. I couldn’t wait for some sort of official announcement or teaser, but sadly, Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment were silent on the subject during the event. However, another tiny little rumor hit the web about Transformers: War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron developer High Moon Studios working on a secret Marvel game, and High Moon and Marvel brought a blockbuster announcement in a big way with the trailer for the first ever solo Deadpool game!

I haven’t been this shocked and excited for a video game trailer since Batman: Arkham Asylum. Activision will publish the game, and Chris North will return as the mouth of the Merc. We’ll be bringing you all the updates for this one all the way to its 2013 release.

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boone was all over Comic Con showing off the first gameplay for the next DC fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us. Cyborg and Nghtwing were the latest roster announcements, and the gameplay looks as fantastically brutal as you could ask for from a Mortal Kombat inspired fighter.

As awesome as the game looks, I can’t get over all these fanboy complaints, the biggest one being the atrocious looking armor that each character is sporting. It makes sense that these characters would put on their battle field best when going to war, but it just looks ugly. And the name still confounds me. I respect the daring approach, and the dark overtone, and they could have called this game ‘That Time Krypto Took a Dump in the Fortress of Solitude’ and I’d still be excited, but I’d never guess this was a superhero game.

Especially after the film, what comic book fan doesn’t want to get their hands on a new Avengers game? Unfortunately, what we’re getting is a motion game. Ubisoft had a demo on hand, revealing exactly what Avengers: Battle for Earth is.

A motion Marvel fighting game. Even after the demo, I’m not very impressed. Personally, I’m not a fan of motion games period, but more than that, I can’t ever see myself passing up Marvel vs. Capcom 3 to get my Marvel fighting fix.

Comic Con is always full of magical surprises. I can’t wait for what next year will hold! …. Assuming the world doesn’t end in December.

    I can’t wait for Deadpool!!!!

I have severely mixed feelings about Injustice.

And the same goes for the Marvel Motion Game.
