They say you should never meet your heroes and that’s just what a newly trained Rebel Alliance soldier is realizing now. His first mission has taken him to Corellia and when his cover is blown by Imperial Agents he meets his contact, the legendary Han Solo. From here the two are on the run and things aren’t going how he expected from this hero of the Rebel Alliance who helped destroy the Death Star. As a matter of fact, it’s beginning to look as if those stories about Han were just that.

The story itself is one that’s pretty fast paced and Kindt uses the new Rebel to tell most of it as he’s trying to process what’s happening. He also serves as the perfect conduit for a reader who isn’t as versed in Star Wars lore as others might be who pick up this issue. It’s an interesting thing to see that this Rebel has obviously been building Han Solo up in his mind for quite some time. Then to see the reality hit him towards the end of the story is one of the best moments and allows for a serious change in the story’s tone. In addition to this being quite the accessible issue Kindt also gives us a look at the underbelly of Corellia. A planet mentioned several times but not (to my knowledge) explored as much in the comics.

The artwork from Castiello  does a fine job of telling the story and we are also treated one of the most alien looking strip club sequences to show up in a Star Wars comic. From the characters themselves to the ships and backgrounds things look pretty good though there were a few times where faces looked a bit stretched. There are also Stormtroopers that look like they are wearing goggles in what seems to be an issue with the inking. Though I will say that the last image Castiello leaves you with in this issue is one of the best and leaves you ready to pick up the next issue immediately!

Star Wars: Rebel Heist is an adventure story that doesn’t rely on Jedi or Sith lightsaber fights to excite the fans. Just good old fashioned adventure, high speed chases, and a guy with a blaster that doesn’t hesitate to shoot first!
