Avi Arad Says Spider-Man Joining Earths Mightiest Heroes Is Possible!!!

Whatever spiritual deity you pray to, whatever wishing well you’ve been plopping your pennies into, whatever voodoo shaman you’ve been paying to implant inception-esque ideas into the Hollywood elites’ noggins…keep it up! Because now it seems that hell may have high chances of snowfall. Yes, my fellow geeks, the swines have mastered flight! For it appears now that there is a snow-ball’s chance that The Wall Crawler himself may appear in future installments of the Avengers! Avi Arad, producer of such films as the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy, as well as the upcoming franchise reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, has given us wide-eyed fans a modest serving of hope.

At a press junket yesterday for the upcoming Spidey film (staring Andrew Garfield and Emma stone), the producer spoke exclusively with Crave Online about the possibilities of Andrew/Peter/Web-Head joining the Avengers in a future installment, as well as the topic of the planned solo Venom movie. This wonderful, beautiful, glorious, treasure of a man had this to say….

“Everything is possible, if something like that happens, it’s great for Disney, it’s great for Sony. If the right story comes in, we are now working on Venom first. It’s our first out. So our thinking is in the right direction. Avengers to me was an expected success so I never looked at it, because Avengers was successful.”

Now, of course this is nothing more than wishful thinking at this point, but the fact the producer of the new Spider-Man movie is even suggesting Disney and Sony cutting some sort of deal to combine the two franchises is enough in itself to make this geek cream his jeans. The Avengers was a movie none of us truly thought could ever happen, and then it did. It was a unbelievable geekfest, taking all these different characters from their own solo movies and combining them into one film with an interconnected cinematic universe; genius, and it worked!

But the thought of Spider-Man being involved in anyway was even more so unlikely, to say the least. Yes, Spidey and The Avengers are both Marvel characters, and yes, they are constantly crossing paths in the comic-sphere. But the fact that Sony owned the films rights to Spider-Man, and Marvel didn’t, was seemingly a death sentence to any star gazer’s dream of seeing the spellbinding Marvel Team-Up. Now Sony and Disney seem to be thinking more logically after the massive success that was The Avengers. Simply put; more heroes, means more money.

But don’t get your hopes up too high, this is nothing more than a comment from someone heavily involved in one of these films. But this comment does show that at least some of the higher-ups seem to be thinking about a more “mutually beneficial” relationship. Until more is heard on this encouraging word, I’ll be gleefully sitting here, playing with my Andrew Garfield Spidey figure and my Chris Evans Cap figure, plotting my own movie…geeks gotta get by somehow…don’t judge.

Actually, Avi Arad is the former CEO of Marvel and the producer of Marvel films such as The Amazing Spider-Man, The Avengers, and almost every other major Mavel movie. At the end of the day, it’s pure speculation. However, if there’s someone with enough clout to make it happen, it’s definitely Arad.
