Good News! The Cabin In The Woods is now a Graphic Novel! (updated)

cabinThe Cabin in the Woods is an upcoming horror film from MGM directed by Drew Goddard, who co-wrote the script with Joss Whedon (producer of the film).  In mid 2009, it was announced that the film was going to be pushed back to convert the film 3-D.

The Cabin in the Woods stars Amy Acker (Angel/Dollhouse), Keith David, Kristen Connolly, Jodelle Ferland, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Richard Jenkins, Fran Kranz (Dollhouse), Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Brian J. White, Bradley Whitford, and Jesse Williams.

The movie is a twist on the horror genre, where a group of young students are stranded in a cabin in the middle of the woods.

“It’s still the classic setup of five teens who go into the woods and bad things happen. The classic archetypes don’t change. They want to go party out in the woods. One of them has a cabin. That’s that,” Kranz said. “Then bad things happen. Woods are scary. They’ve always been scary to us, going back to [Nathaniel] Hawthorne or something. We’re afraid of the woods, so that’s where all the monsters are. It was a natural setting, and also Vancouver’s gorgeous, so it was an opportunity to go hang out there in the woods.”

Tokyopop announced this past weekend that a global manga would be released on The Cabin in the Woods.  In a past interview with Newsarama earlier in 2009, Joss Whedon stated:

The comic will “probably” take place before the continuity of the movie.

There isn’t too much detail regarding the movie’s premise or graphic novel, as its cast and crew are keeping vital information under wraps.  Also to be expected in January 2011 are tie-ins to the movie by the publisher Titan.   The novel will be a novelization of the film, and the visual companion will have features such as interviews and behind the scenes information.

I have been a fan of Joss Whedon since 1997.  Any work he has done I’ve loved dearly, so I’m really excited about this movie, especially with a few familiar Whedon cast members being a part of it.  I’m not sure what to expect from Whedon and Goddard regarding this film, but I know it will be good.

The Cabin in the Woods comes to theaters on January 14, 2011.

Whedon outside of comics is hit and miss with me. I hope this movie is a good one!

Sounds like the typical suspense/horror flick. I’ll wait to hear about it and maybe rent it.

    Good call! 🙂

Joss’s movie Serenity didn’t make back its money until it got to DVD.
I assume this will be the case for The Cabin in the Woods too (but we’ll see).
