Marvel Snapshot: Character Spotlight: Silver Dagger

marvelsnapshot
Hey everybody, welcome to another great character spotlight, right here in Marvel Snapshot! In this week’s installment, we’ll be looking at one of the Sorcerer Supreme’s deadliest foes, with Silver Dagger! This villain has plagued Doctor Strange since the very first issue of his second series, so let’s jump right into his evil past! Silver Dagger (Isaiah Curwen) was created by Steve Englehart and Frank Brunner (Doctor Strange vol. 2, #1-1974).

Isaiah Curwen was actually a Cardinal in the Catholic church before he read from the pages of the Darkhold (a copy actually, not the original). At this point, he went mad, and began studying the mystic arts himself. He believed it was his mission to destroy other mystic beings, and rid the world of them because they were evil. His first target was Dr. Strange, and he used his skills to infiltrate the Sanctum Sanctorum of the Doctor, by hypnotizing Clea, and knocking out Wong.
Next, he uses his stealth to catch Strange unaware of his presence, and fires a dagger into his back. He believes he’s killed him, so he then kidnaps Clea, and uses the Eye of Agamotto to enter its home dimension. Strange is not dead, though, and after healing he gets pulled into the Orb of Agamotto by its demonic forces, and must fight its otherworldly forces, and Silver Dagger, to rescue Clea and make it out alive!

After that adventure, in Marvel Team-Up #76 & 77, Dr. Strange, Spider-Man, and Ms. Marvel had to once again journey to the realm of Agamotto and stop Silver Dagger, who had conquered that realm, and kidnapped Clea. Marie Laveau was also involved in that story, and in the end, she stabbed Silver Dagger, almost killing him. He retreated to fight again another day, and did so, trying to kill Jack Russell, A.K. A. Werewolf by Night. When or where he’ll strike again, nobody knows!
As usual, check out my recommended reading list along with some awesome covers! See you next time!
