Marvel Snapshot: Character Spotlight: Ronan the Accuser

Hello everyone, it’s Sunday again, and that means it’s time for another dose of Marvel Snapshot! This week will feature a spotlight on Ronan the Accuser! Yes, this ultimate Kree specimen is going to be under the microscope today, so get ready to travel the universe and seek out this one time menace!

Ronan was born on the Kree homeworld of Hala long ago. His first foray into Earth’s atmosphere was when the Fantastic Four defeated a Kree Sentry, and that sent an alert to Hala. Ronan then traveled to Earth to pass judgment on these inferior beings. Well, he was sent packing by the team, and returned to Hala. His next appearance was in the first Kree-Skrull War. He was secretly trying to overthrow the Supreme Intelligence along with Zarek. That coup failed and Ronan was punished for it by being mentally controlled by the Supreme Intelligence himself. He is then forced to battle another Kree, Mar-Vell. After that, Ronan decides to try and reverse the evolutionary process on Earth, but is thwarted by Mar-vell. This drives him insane and he stays that way for a while, well, until the Supreme Intelligence decides to return him to sanity.
During the Kree-Shi’ar War (Operation: Galactic Storm), Ronan arrests a group of Avengers that come to Hala to help quell the war between the two great races. Eventually though, The Supreme Intelligence takes Ronan, and a few others, and creates Starforce. The group is basically his version of the Shi’ar Imperial Guard. After that huge galactic battle, things were quiet for a while, but that would change drastically with Annihilation. This epic had Ronan being framed for treason, fighting Gamora, and joining Nova against the threat of the Annihilation Wave. Fantastic story telling and great battle scenes that really put Marvel’s Cosmic scene back on the map after a long layoff. Eventually, Ronan clears his name, kills his betrayer, and then kills the Supreme Intelligence, too!

During Secret Invasion, and then War of Kings, Ronan marries Crystal of the Inhumans. At first it is thought to be a marriage to help the Kree get used to the fact that the Inhumans have taken over, but Ronan actually falls in love with Crystal. Lately, Ronan has become more of a hero than the evil galactic Kree Accuser he once was. Personally, I like Ronan, and my only knock on him is his weapon (looks too much like Mjolnir).

    I never realized how cool Ronan is until Annihilation came out even though he’s been around for a bit I’ve just barely paid him any attention. Now he’s smashing faces all across the galaxy, married to Crystal, and is being written with more of a personality so he’s become interestiing. Oh and I actually have that Captain Marvel #49 somewhere in my collection lol

    @Speech- Yeah, he sure has become a great character in the last decade. I just bought a few issues of Captain Marvel that includes #49-50. 😀

  3. Aron

    Ronan has a hot wife. Chicka-pow.

    I’m with Speech, I never paid much attention to Ronan until Annihilation. Busting open Ravenous’ head like that was one of the baddest moments of that story. Looking forward to more development in the near future.

    @Aron- Yes he does!
    @Eli- He was mostly a one trick pony before Annihilation, but has really come into his own since then.
