On a distant planet, two prisoners are about to make a jailbreak, and lives will be lost. A ship is boarded by the inmates, but it’s too heavy, and there is only one way to lighten the load. The weak are culled by the strong, and then the ship makes its escape. It doesn’t take long for the escape vessel to be sliced in half, though, from a cruiser nearby. A robed figure, Geshema, is scorched in the blast, but he lives long enough to give Kaizaxx a key. Not just any key, but one that unleashes unimaginable power when it reaches its destination on a neighboring planet. And then, the adventure truly begins for this cosmic barbarian.
OK, let me just start out by saying that I did like this book. First off, it kind of turned me off slightly because it reminded me of a crappy Hercules mini-series that I read a year ago about Herc in space. Well, this book is way better than that one, I can assure you. The visuals (check pic below, click to enlarge) are much better in this book, and the story has more depth in the first issue I read, than that entire four issue mini.
That said, it was a good building block for future issues, but number one’s usually have an “A Game” that following issues sometimes don’t come close to having. Hopefully, Gerald Cooper & co. can use this first issue as a launching pad for more great cosmic action! If you like sci-fi and fantasy, Genecy is a promising blend of both.

Nice! Looks like another great book that folks should check out!
I got this book a long time ago and I’ll pit it against just about any other book that’s out there! The visuals are just outstanding and the poetry of the writing put me in the mind of a modern day Stan Lee.
@Speech- I was definitely pleasantly surprised by this one. I don’t have a good track record for non-Marvel titles. 😀
@kiddo- It reminded me of a 90’s book (the good kind). Good story with art that really popped off the page.

@ Kiddo – Yeah you’re right! Gerald Cooper does put you in a modern day Stan Lee. The writing was pretty poetic and theatrical but not over the top. It was done well with a modern day science fiction twist.
@Billy – 😀 I was pleasantly surprised as well when I picked up this issue. There are so many avenues for the story to go and grow. I hope the second issue comes out as soon as possible. Genecy #1 was a great blend of science fiction and fantasy.
I can’t wait for the next issue. This was a very good book!
