I am sponsoring a contest this month! I need a new banner to advertise Indy Gems on the ComicAttack.net main page. The banner needs to be 630 x 250, and say Indy Gems somewhere in the design. Other than that, go crazy with it guys. Send all entries to scott@comicattck.net with the subject “Indy Gems Contest”… The deadline to enter is December 1st, so get those entries in before that. I will go over all entries and notify the winner via e-mail on December 20th. Oh, I almost forgot what the prizes are; I am giving whoever designs the winning banner a Dynamic Forces New Mutants #1 Alex Ross sketch cover signed by Alex Ross (limited to 300), and a Dynamic Forces Reborn #1 Alex Ross negative cover. Now on with the column.
Chew #5

Having heard the hype about this series for a while now, I had to add this title to my pull list. Having had a chance to sit down and read issue #5 recently, I was instantly horrified that I haven’t been following this title! This issue is a great starting point for new readers; not being familiar with this series or its characters, I found myself being drawn in and brought up to date, as it were, rather quickly. For those of you still unfamiliar with Chew, it is about Tony Chu. Tony Chu is a cibopath. A cibopath is an individual who gets psychic impressions from any substance he ingests; he can eat something and knows its history. The writing for this comic is both ludicrous and well planned and thought out. Issue #5 starts with the ending panels of the comic and then leads into how things unfolded. Big changes are coming for Tony Chu, changes that will affect him and Mason Savoy forever. I am still truly horrified that I haven’t been following this series since issue #1.
Cowboy Ninja Viking

Writer: Aj Lieberman
Artist: Riley Rossmo
Letters: Clayton Cowles
Cover: Dave Casey
Cowboy Ninja Viking is one of those titles you most likely would pass on simply because of the title; it sounds like a really cheese filled comic. I can say there is absolutely no cheese anywhere is this comic; what you will get is some great writing and some serious butt kicking! Cowboy Ninja Viking follows a trained assassin with multiple personalities that, as you can guess, are a cowboy, a ninja, and a viking. He is known as a triplet and has been trained to kill, along with numerous other triplets. When a triplet goes rogue and needs to be put down, they bring in the best of the best – Cowboy Ninja Viking! This series is fast paced and extremely well written, and the artwork has its own stylistic flair. I love when each of the personalities talk; either a six shooter, a katana, or an axe run through the speech bubble. I get a real serious Cowboy Bebop vibe from this comic, so check it out, you won’t be disappointed!

Cowboy Ninja Viking sounds pretty silly, which I guess is the point.
I heard about CNV a while back and figured it would be corny and Chew sounds interesting. So do they have him eat anything like a tv remote or a shirt to get a reading?
I agree, CNV seems ridiculous. Haha. I’m pretty interested to see how it plays out.
Dude, you need to get the back issues for Chew!!
