Asylum Press announced today that it will release its latest graphic novel entitled Farmhouse to the Comics by comiXology iPhone comic store and reader before it goes to print. Farmhouse is written by playwright Elizabeth J. Musgrave and illustrator Szymon Kudranski (Batman, Zombie Cop).

Farmhouse is a dark character drama set in a mental institution, set in the town of Paintsville in the mountains of eastern Kentucky. In this tale, Sam Corneile, A drifter, returns home to take a job at a local mental institution where he discovers a group of patients being exploited under an art therapy regimen. While there, he falls for Helen, a feisty but troubled female who dares him to confront his past.

“I am very excited to work with comiXology on delivering Asylum Press’ comics to the iPhone.  There are millions of iPhone users and it opens up our reader base quite significantly,” says publisher Frank Forte.  “The comics market has needed to get to new fans for over a decade and this seems to be the best way to do it.  We hope it will drive readers to their local comic shops.”

“Asylum has a lot of fun comics with a wide range of genres,” said David Steinberger, CEO of comiXology. “Farmhouse is a dark, brooding drama that is unique in our offerings and we hope gets the attention it deserves.”

The Comics by comiXology App is a digital comic store, library and reader for the iPhone and iPod Touch, that has over 200 comics from nearly 30 popular comic publishers and many independent comic writers.

Winners announced for the upcoming end of times anthology by Heske Horror – 2012: Final Prayer

Untitled1Heske Horror, the indie horror single that created Cold Blooded Chillers and the award-winning horror anthology Bone Chiller, has announced the winning submissions for its latest project – an anthology titled 2012: Final Prayer. The Doomsday tome features 19 stories from published creators and emerging talent from around the world, making this one-of-a-kind collection a truly global event. Representative countries include the US, UK, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Scotland and South Africa.

“The world is abuzz with the 2012 phenomena,” says R.M. Heske, Managing Director of Heske Horror, who also contributed three graphic tales to the book. “This book provides diverse interpretations about what will happen on December 21st, 2012 at 11:11 GST – whether it be ‘End Times,’ a spiritual transformation programmed into our DNA, or a fear-of-our-own-mortality phobia buried beneath our sub-conscious.”  12/21/12 marks the end of the Mayan Long Count calendar – which depending on whom you listen to could mark catastrophe or spiritual transformation. 2012: Final Prayer plays out multiple possibilities via 4-8 page graphic tales (and an 18-page story by written by Heske and drawn by Dirk Shearer that covers alternate dimensions, the 11:11 time prompt phenomena, and 2012). The book also includes an “aftermath” section with short narrative tales about what transpires the day after 12/21.

“Nobody can predict the future, but 2012 – and the ultimate end game for humanity – provides a fascinating premise for creators,” says Heske. “Even if nothing happens, which is certainly the outcome I’m hoping for, we should nonetheless talk about it and get it out in the open – if only to be informed, engaged, and prepared.

Preston Asevedo provided cover art for the US edition; Paul Cartwright will provide Variant cover art for the UK edition, which will release a month after the US edition (December 2009). Chris McJunkin, who also wrote and drew “Final Choices” for the anthology, provided color inside cover art. Additional art was provided by Anthony Diecidue and Eliseu “Zeu” Gouveia.

The release date for 2012: Final Prayer is November 15, 2009. For more information, visit www.coldbloodedchillers.com.

Those feisty but troubled females are so confrontational!

Is Ms. Musgrave new to writing comics? How long has she been a playwright?
