Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman

What do you get when you have a pimp, a whore, and voodoo? Cabra Cini of course! The story begins with Cabra recounting a recent altercation between a man named Tom Spelling and his girlfriend. Apparently, Tom and his girl were watching too much True Blood, got a little carried away, and Tom’s girlfriend is now dead. Cabra then decides to tell us how she became involved with voodoo and why. Once we know these facts, we also get to see how she travels from place to place in the blink of an eye; She uses doorways that fall between Limbo to get around, but there are those that don’t appreciate her abusing voodoo as she routinely does. Once inside Limbo, Cabra is attacked, and just manages to evade a killing blow from an unknown assailant. Eventually, Cabra stops him, but then gets distracted by her former pimp. He says that he thinks she’s pathetic for loving him even after the beatings and degradation. Suffice it to say, Cabra doens’t take his taunts lightly, and engages him physically, but then realizes he’s not who he says he is…

OK, well, there were a few things I liked about the book, but also a couple that I didn’t care for. Let’s get right to the good parts. First off, I did like the story; even though it had some unnecessary violence and foul language (the majority of the time I find that stuff to be more forced than natural), however, the story is still strong enough to keep you reading without distraction. I think the characters were strong enough to keep readers interested for a while, and the artwork was pretty good, too. The only thing I felt it was missing was a big moment or shocker. Other than that, it was a good story, especially from a small web comic publisher. I actually don’t care for web comics personally, but this one was pretty good, and worth checking out. The artwork is really what was most attractive about it. It really had the right tone, and hit all the right moments. Overall, the story reminded me of a cross between The Magdalena and Brother Voodoo. Make sure you keep checking back to Visionary Comics – Digital Visions for more blood spilling, voodoo action!
