Daredevil #7

This issue wraps up Daredevil’s involvement in the Original Sin event, and it seems as if everything was just a misunderstanding. Which makes the ending one part emotional and one part anticlimactic. We do get to the bottom of the corruption between Wakanda and the U.S. Government, which raises some questions concerning Queen Shuri. Waid and Rodriguez also give the story a very serious tone here as Matt gets to the real reason his mother left when he was a child. It is centered around a serious topic, but again this isn’t Matt’s particular sin so it just didn’t seem to wrap everything up as well as expected. Rodriguez does some solid work with the art, and we even get to see DD throw down with Queen Shuri for several panels.
As far as a Daredevil story this is a step in the right direction for the series, but as an Original Sin tie-in it falls short. – IM

Daredevil is in Wakanda to free Sister Maggie. Daredevil is one smart dude! He finally gets to ask his mother why she left all those years ago. Something he was looking to do in the first place, because he gained the memories from Uatu’s eyeball going off. The answer was well worth the wait, since I thought it was going to be a dud after last issue. It also touches on a very real and serious subject. It was well done. – AF

Nick Fury: The truth about Dum Dum Dugan. Al Ewing. Very sad. This is a really good story. Worth the cover. It seems there was always one story in this anthology, each issue, that made it worth it.
Young Avengers: Again, didn’t touch it because the first installment turned me off.
Everyone Else: A fun little bit where we learn that Luke Cage actually hates sweets and hates Christmas. Dr. Strange had hoped to join a metal band. Black Panther has an Avril Lavigne CD collection. Namor pees in the ocean. The last story in each of the five issues was always good for some brainless fun! – AF

It’s no secret that this series has not been one that I’ve looked forward to while covering this event, and I was under the assumption this issue would be more of the same. Well, you know what they say about assuming, and this time mine were really off the mark. First of all, Al Ewing hits you square in the gut with a revelation that goes back several decades. Then Ryan North actually closes out the Young Avengers story on a higher note than when it started. The final story in here is the icing on the cake as Chip Zdarsky reveals the sins of some of Marvel’s biggest names. Though for you fanboys that can’t take a joke, it is stated that this story is not in continuity. Though it’s mostly enjoyable because it harkens back to the days when comics weren’t taken so seriously and we allowed ourselves to just have fun. – IM

This is the week for clearing the names of the fathers. The Nova tie-in for Original Sin was also a good one. Such a great story and beautiful art. You’d be doing yourself some good to be reading this title even now that the tie-in piece is over. Also, you just can’t go wrong with a Fastball Special featuring Rocket Raccoon! – AF

This is a story about how a dog, a raccoon, and a simpleton deliver one of the most hilarious butt kickings in space. Nova and Rocket are on borrowed time as the poison is coursing through their systems. All of this is made complicated by the fact that Nova has found out some disturbing facts about his father that have him doubting his role in carrying on the legacy. Or has he?
Gerry Dugan really pulls the heartstrings with this one, as well as providing some over the top action courtesy of Rocket. Also he keeps this in line with the event as it doesn’t stray from what set this particular adventure off in the first place. David Baldeon’s artwork and David Curiel’s colors are just another feather in the cap for this issue. So you won’t be disappointed if you choose to add this one to your tie-in collection. – IM
