Ghostbusters: Year One explores the moments we didn’t get to see in the classic film with this issue focusing specifically on Winston Zeddemore’s early days with the team. The interview approach fits well as we’re introduced to Rebecca Morales who is the reporter tasked with gathering the information on the Ghostbusters. Erik Burnham sets the issue up with her visiting some familiar faces before we settle in on Winston. A sequence that will have a nice payoff with those longtime fans though those who may not have seen the first movie might not be be as excited. As we delve deeper into those early days of Winston, Burnham does an excellent job at fleshing out the character and by extension his teammates. Seeing how he views each member and how the on-the-job training plays out is a large part of the story though Winston’s first encounter with the ghost of Edgar Allen Poe may have more sinister implications later down the line here.

Schoening has been killing it on Ghostbusters titles for some time and he continues to do so here. His style not only captures the characters but gives the energy and personality needed to fit the narrative. Delgado’s colors reinforce how nice the visuals are especially when we get to see Poe’s ghost at various spooky stages of transformations. The black with the red illuminating glow really gives it that extra visual pop and enhances the supernatural feel.

This series is off to a great start and sure to be more than just a reintroduction to the team but will offer some new moments to enjoy courtesy of the creative team. Ghostbusters: Year One is worth picking up for any Ghostbusters fan.
