ICONS & LEGENDS OF HOLLYWOOD A Gallery Exhibit Of Extraordinary Props Costumes and Relics

Star Wars, Aliens, Terminator are iconic genre films. These films and others like them let us peek into worlds as far flung as a galaxy far far away to well LA…but with murderous robots. Each part of these films from the score to the sound design let you relieve the first time seeing the films in which they are part of. For all the joy they bring they are intangible parts of the experience, you can’t take them home. The tangible experience of film an its iconic moments and characters can however be brought home through costume and properties, aka props. Items from Profiles in History Icons & Legends of Hollywood Auction will be exhibited at The Society of Illustrators, 128 East 63rd street NYC.

Not only are there items from the films mentioned above but there are great pieces from Broadway and throughout film history. Profiles in History will be holding an auction for these items June 5th through 8th in Los Angeles so these maybe the last time any of these items presented may be seen in public.  The highlight of the exhibit is the the helmet of one of the original Darth Vader suits made by Industrial Light and Magic.

Lot number 778, Helmet from Industrial Light and Magic life-size “Darth Vader” figure from Star Wars

The full suit will be up for auction in June.

One of the most fantastical set of items from the exhibit come from Aliens. Featuring Ripley’s a flamethrower prop and a highly detailed space suit costume worn by Sigourney Weaver. I was thoroughly surprised by the detail on the suit and the mesh details are so fine. There is just so much work that went into creating this items and at the time an item like this wasn’t meant to be kept around!
