Kawaii is part of the Japanese cultural export that has made its way into the American lexicon and through a generation of anime and manga it has seeped into all aspects of pop culture. The cuteness often involves huge eyes, big heads, or simple streamlined designs that just make you say “Awww!”.
One of the new break-out stars of kawaii cuteness culture is Rilakkuma. Coming April 19th to Netflix, Rilakkuma and Kaoru stars the eponymous bear in a stop motion show.
This is could be Rilakkuma’s break-out year with the show and tons of plush goods in production. Along with Rilakkuma there were a host of Kawaii plush that shared space at the Aliquantum International booth that are primed to take over your life.
The best thing coming from Aliquantum however has American roots. Felix the Cat is celebrating his 100th anniversary and Aliquantum has Felix goods ready to go.
GUND
Over at GUND Pusheen continues her reign in as new plush items are on the way in June.
Also Gund has picked up Line Friends for plush in a range of sizes and blind box plushes.
Pokémon
There wasn’t much of a presence from Pokémon but they did bring some items that align with the Detective Pikachu movie coming out.
