“G.I. Joe pt 13”: By the conclusion of the previous arc Scarlett had been cleared of all charges thanks to Snake Eyes and Mainframe’s help and they are re-instated into the Joes. However Snake Eyes suffered serious injury at the hands of a Cobra soldier and after somewhat recovering, he has left the Pit in search of his teacher: the Hard Master…indicating that more than his physical body is in need of healing. So now in this issue Scarlet is heading a rescue mission of a Senator and though that part was successful, Beach Head and Tripwire are left behind after drawing the enemy away from their unit. So after reporting their situation, Tunnel Rat is called in to assist the guys and help them navigate an old Meso-American pyramid, and avoid getting killed by the Colombian troops that are in pursuit. So it’s just another day at the office for these guys!
Chuck Dixon brings us a refreshing change of pace with this one; it being a self contained story and that it takes a break from what has been set up in the past 12 issues. We’re allowed to focus more on the Joes with Beach Head and Tripwire sharing the spotlight. I especially liked the personality that Dixon brought to Beach Head and that he’s not just the hard ass Drill Sergeant but he’s also got a bit of dark humor to him. Both characters played off each other well, and changed what could have easily been a run of the mill story to something action packed, humorous and exciting. Dixon even threw in a bit of background on Beach Head hinting that he’s suffering from amnesia; I hope that is expanded on later in the series. Now in my personal opinion Robert Atkins needs to stay on this title…period. His style is great in its simplicity and brings a different vibe and energy which stands out from past issues. I was pretty dissappointed seeing that he had done covers for previous issues and not the interiors, so I’m glad he’s back since his departure after the 7th issue.
I am definitely becoming a fan of G.I. Joe all over again with this series. It started slow but that doesn’t translate into “bad,” though I know in this time of instant gratification that we’re all used to, patience is hard to tolerate with comics, but this book was definitely worth waiting for!

I agree with you about this issue. Since the second arc the title has been getting better and better. Beach Head is my favorite Joe, so I could be a little biased, but I thought this issue stood out above the rest.
I bought a couple issue a while back and they were pretty good. I’ll have to grab a few more. Hey, by the way IS. Is Snake Eyes “doing” Scarlett behind Dukes back?
that little love triangle has been touched on many times but no one has ever dug deep down and explored it. It seems as if Snake loves Scarlet but for some reason they don’t get together and she accepts that and Duke knows there is something between them but he and Scarlet have something between them as well. Good thing Duke is smart enough not to run his mouth to Snake though or he’d end up on the wrong side of a katana lol
