Gotta Have It! Figure Edition: Wolverine and the X-Men: Iceman

ICEMAN spends a lot of time messing around and playing pranks on the other X-MEN, but he still takes being a hero very seriously.  When things get dangerous, and WOLVERINE issues an order, Bobby jumps to obey.

Yeah, I don’t know.  S’what the back of the box says.  What I do know, is that it’s Saturday once again!  Saturdays are perfect for cartoons and for ComicAttack.net’s Gotta Have It! This week, I’ll be taking a look at an action figure line from Hasbro that teams up with one of the best Marvel cartoons to date!  Nicktoons Network’s Wolverine and the X-Men!

Product Line: Wolverine and the X-Men (Series 1, Wave 4)
Company: Hasbro
Released: July 2009
Packaging: Blister Card Packaging
Where to Buy: This line is starting to dwindle down, at least Series 1 is, but any retail store with a toy department.
Price: US $5.90  (Target, Clearance, $8.44 Regular)
Points of Articulation: 6
Height: 3 3/4″

Paint Job: Iceman’s arms and ankles are made of clear plastic.  His face is also clear with baby blue eyebrows and white eyes.  The head is painted in baby blue with white streaks.  Iceman’s costume and boots are painted navy blue and yellow.  All colors are in a flat finish.  Any action figure made of clear plastic is pretty awesome in my book.  Sometimes Iceman action figures are white or normal flesh with “ice hands,” but the ones that are clear are my favorite.  Yeah, I said his ankles were clear.  I think he’s wearing high-waters.  But he still looks…cool!
Durability: This Iceman is well built with no hollow pieces.  There is a peg hole in the center of his right boot sole and a peg hole in the toe of his left boot.  His joints are very reliable in that they do not swing loose at any of his six points of articulation.
Poseability: Whoa!  This Iceman’s poseability is VERY limited.  He comes pre-posed and can only hold one stance.  He can only stand up straight and hold balance while he is on his ice board.  If his buddy Forge were to give him a Native American name, it would be “Stands With Board.”  His pre-posed arms swivel, and his waist and head turns.  Not much you can really do with this Iceman.

Heads up! Comin' through!

Accessories: Iceman comes with only one accessory.  An ice board.  It is pretty simple.  It’s a textured, clear blue plastic with foot pegs on each end.  It’s a fair attempt at portraying his ice slide, but it ends up resembling a surf board.  I’m sure he’ll have loads of fun racing against Silver Surfer.

WOOSH!

What’s Awesome: While this Iceman action figure is not as cool as some of Decapitated Dan’s, it is still pretty cool in its own little innocent way.  I really like that his exposed body and ice board are clear.  There is just something about a clear action figure (when it’s appropriate) that sets it apart from an ordinary action figure.  Besides, let’s face it.  This one is for the kids.  It’s modeled after a kids’ cartoon and the figure itself has a cartoonish vibe to it.  I know my four-year-old is dying for me to finish up with this one.  That’s the best part!  It has kid-appeal.  Hasbro did their job.  The kids are who they were aiming for with this series.  But if you do keep him for yourself, he doesn’t look too bad sitting on your shelf or mantle.  You can’t beat that discounted price that most stores have on this series, either.

Hey, who didn't put the salt down? Somebody help!

What Sucks: This Iceman can’t stand up on his own.  He was destined to forever be on his ice board or he’ll bite the dust.  This incarnation of Bobby Drake is more like a kids’ meal toy than an action figure.

Overall: 2 out of 5.  I give this Iceman only two thumbs up because he is very limited in what you can do with him.  There is not much to work with and what you can do, doesn’t look in the least bit badass.  This action figure is just not for the adult collector.  Gotta have it?  Nah, not really.  If you’re a real deal, blue blooded Iceman fan?  Go for it!  If you have, or know, a lil’ fan-boy or fan-girl, go ahead and get it for them!  Especially since this Iceman’s a discounted do-gooder.  It’ll make their day!

That's all, folks! See ya!

I think he looks hideous, but maybe he looks like that in the cartoon? If he looks like he’s supposed to, then whatever, I guess.

  2. Aron White

He does look a little like an odd duck, but you can’t scare the bad guys looking like a teddy bear!

    This is great!!

I actually own this figure too! He’s chillin on my shelf with all my statues. Isn’t this one a variant version? …I can’t remember.

  4. Aron White

    Thanks!

I have no idea why, but I figured you had this figure. Yes, it is a variant. Or a later release with a different costume, anyways. The first one had a lighter costume and looked nekkit!

Very good likeness to the version on that show for sure. I actually like this shows version better than any previous incarnation. 🙂

I like bobby but those shoes are killing me lol

Billy- I think I like the one from Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends! How he used to build an ice block around himself and bust out to change, I used to do that, too. hahaha!

Speech- You mean you wouldn’t wear those if you were an x-man?!

  8. Billy

@Aron-that version was OK but he was portrayed a little too much as the “goofball”. He rarely was counted on in a battle as a serious threat. 🙂

  9. Decapitated Dan

Thanks for the plug buddy 😉
This Iceman also comes in another color as you are showing off the second paint job, that some idiots consider to be the rarer version.

This is one of the worst looking ones out of all of them in my opinion. This one in particular loses points because of the hideous outfit colors.

I’ve actually seen the original paint job on the discount rack at Wal-Mart. That’s doesn’t sound too rare to me!

Billy – I don’t think I’ve ever seen Iceman taken seriously except for right here in the X-Men Power Rankings! 🙂

Dan – You’re welcome! It’s an impressive collection. I’m sure it has grown since those pics, too! Puts my Daredevil collection to shame!
