Star Sapphire. The name itself evokes images of pinks, purples, hearts, and strong women donning these themes. Surprisingly, only a number of statues, busts, and figures have been produced around this character, which has been around for quite a long time and had quite an impact on the DC universe. I’m continually intrigued by the Star Sapphire and all the women in history who have become her at one point. So, it kind of goes without saying, that a bishoujo statue of her was pretty much one of my dreams come true.

An avid collector of all things Ame-Comi and Bishoujo, I had this statue on reserve for months after I had the chance to sneak a peek at last year’s comic con. On display, she looks fantastic. The colors pop, the pose is sexy, and the costume! The costume design is a fun and unique take on the Queen of Zamarons. Sometimes Ame-Comi’s costume interpretations are original and quite clever; other times, they stretch the idea a little too far and the character is almost unrecognizable. This is not the case for this Star Sapphire. Hearts adorn the ensemble from head to toe, and she’s even blowing a kiss to one she holds in her hand.

While overall this looks like a nice figure, I can’t help but wonder if Ame-Comi decided to get a little cheap on us. If you study her closely, you will find minimal details across the figure. The costume lacks definite fabric folds that would have added a dimensional touch to the figure. The least amount of detail, however, is evident in her face. It’s simply painted with little to no shading. This is quite a let down considering the price of the figure and the overall complexity that appears to be present at first glance.

Another problem: her foot won’t even fit into the stone on the base. Seriously. I tried every position and stance, even having to ask others to see if they could fit it in for me. No such luck. The hole is not even close to the same size. I googled this and found, to my surprise, that other people had the same experience. So I believe that mine was not defected and it’s just a design problem. This is extremely frustrating, as I now have to stand her up against something in order to display her right. One little knock though, and she comes tumbling down. Very disappointing.

With that said, however, the packaging she comes in is very nice. It contains gorgeous artwork of the figure and presents her in a way that’s positively drool worthy on display. Her come-hither pose will most likely make its way into your wallet.

While the statue has a few problems, overall I’d say it’s pretty decent. The costume design and pose are unique and really fun. She’s sexy while also being adorable. The price tag it’ll net you (almost sixty bucks) is a little steep for all the problems it will pose you, however. Unless you’re a big fan of the character or a bishoujo collector, you might not be very satisfied with your purchase.

I would say that rather than blowing a kiss TO the heart in her hand, it’s the heart itself she is blowing.
The figure is really cute, but I’m surprised it has such an annoying flaw. And she appears quite top heavy as well (referring to her hair, here), so I imagine she is prone to nearly toppling over.

Wow, yeah, kind of a steep price for that. Nice figure though (maybe $20).

the “come hither pose” has been the downfall of many lol though it’s not to be outdone by the come hither stare either 🙂
