Paint Job: I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that this Snake Eyes isn’t painted, for the most part.  He is made entirely of black and gray molded plastic.  His head, torso, and legs are a flat, black plastic.  His visor, gloves, and boots are a high gloss, black plastic.  Snake Eyes’s arms, belt, and trench coat are made of a flat, gray plastic.  The clasps and buckles on his belts and straps are painted silver.  The G.I. Joe logo on his trench coat is painted flawlessly in sliver, as well.  The sculpt of this Snake Eyes is highly detailed when compared to the G.I. Joes that I grew up with.  I’m not saying that the Joes of old looked stupid, I’m just saying that today’s Joes have improved on what was already perfection.

Durability: Like the G.I. Joes before him, Snake Eyes’s body parts are mostly made up of two pieces each.  His torso is pegged together in lieu of the screw that was once used.  His belt is a separate piece, but it has a place that it firmly locks into.  A metal pin with ball joints constructs the hip joints, allowing for swivel.  There is a screw in each of his inner thighs.

Not much has changed with the over-all construction of today’s version.  However, the crotch is no longer a separate piece.  It is part of the lower abdomen that can move separate from the torso.  There’s no rubber band holding this puppy together.  There is a peg hole in each of his boot soles and his back, as expected, has a peg hole in the center.

Poseability: The poseability on this guy is just plain nuts!  The knee caps are their own pieces, so the knees bend in two spots.  The elbow joints can spin around 360 degrees completely, and they can bend up and down.  The joints don’t wobble, shake, or sound like they need to be oiled either.  They hold up in every position you put them in.  He also has a lot more freedom to move if you take off his trench coat.  Who doesn’t?  His hands are also sculpted perfectly enough to hold all of his weapons without any problems.

Accessories: Snake Eyes comes with a dog tag-like display stand with his name on it.  Two foot pegs help him to pose, but he really doesn’t need them.  He can stand up straight and hold his balance very well all on his own.  There is also a pretty kick-ass poster in the package of an action figure Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes throwing down, but all of the fold creases cause too much of a glare to show you without blinding you.  Too bad.  Snake Eyes also comes with a big machine gun, a hand gun, a knife, his trademark katana with a sheath that fits into the hole in his back, and…TIMBER!  Yeah, buddy!  Although he wasn’t in the movie, this Paris Pursuit version of Snake Eyes comes with his wolf sidekick, Timber!

Oh, no! It's a woof! Run!

There are three different versions of Timber floating around out there.  There is a black one (why?), a brown one (wtf?!), and the gray one.  Luckily, I got the gray one, because it is the most accurate and awesome.  Duh!  Timber’s fur is very textured and has white/light gray accents.  He is not poseable, but comes in a pre-posed mold with one hell of a snarl going on!  Snake Eyes’s hands are full with guns, and his sword is carried on his back, so he doesn’t have anywhere to stash the knife.  Lucky for him, it fits perfectly in Timber’s mouth, making him look even more bad ass than he already does!

What’s Awesome: Everything about this Snake Eyes action figure is awesome.  I don’t think that there has ever been a stupid Snake Eyes figure made in history!  I’m really happy that Timber wasn’t forgotten in this action figure relaunch.  I’m thinking that these two need a Spirit action figure to pal around with, too.  Who knows?  I hope this action figure line explodes into hundreds of characters like it did back in my day.

What Sucks: There are only five things that I can really complain about with this action figure.  First, I wish the visor was more detailed with the horizontal lines that are on the packaging art.  Second,  I would have liked his trench coat to be black so when you take it off, he doesn’t have gray arms.  Also, when he isn’t wearing the trench coat his sleeves are a little bulky at the wrist.  How do you explain that up against the rest of his tight-fitting ninja threads?  It would also have been cool if the hood on his coat was sculpted up, just like in the art.  Lastly,  as detailed as everything is, they could have added a holster for his hand gun and knife.  All in all, those complaints are minor in the whole scheme of things.

Overall: 4 out of 5.  I give Snake Eyes (and Timber) four thumbs up because he is just freakin’ cool!  G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra – Snake Eyes (Paris Pursuit).  Gotta have it?  You’re damn right, you do!  You KNOW you gotta clip the I.D. card off the back and keep it in a safe place, too!  You just gotta!  S’what the cool kids do!

I got my guns, blades, my woof, and my Cloak of Levitation. What's up, now?!

This looks good, and not $5 is not bad at all.

  2. InfiniteSpeech

I want this one! Snake just looks cool rockin’ the trench. I heard that this version was pretty hard to come by though. 🙁

  3. Kristin

Yeah, he does look a little silly when the coat comes off. Too bad the outer arms don’t pop off or something.

  4. InfiniteSpeech

I just noticed the sword even has the blood groove, nice detail!

  5. Andy

So his crotch can move separate from his torso, huh? Good for him!

And contrary to the movie, this Snake Eyes figure looks way cool!!

  6. InfiniteSpeech

What was wrong with the movie version? Could it be the visible lips on the mask that weirded you out?

  7. Aron White

Eli- No, 5 bucks ain’t bad at all. But that’s at Wal-Mart. I’ve seen them for $7 at Target. Still not bad, but bad if you could get them 2 bucks less somewhere else.

Speech- Yes, it’s very detailed! It’s rare, huh? Damn. Maybe I should have left it in the package. ha! Well, I can always seem to find them here. Next time I see one, I’ll send it your way!

Andy- Yeah, what was wrong with the movie Snake Eyes? His entrance into the movie was freakin’ SWEET, too!

  8. Billy

Really cool Aron! Snake was my favorite Joe!
