Gotta Have It!: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab’s RPG series

Welcome back for another Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab edition of Gotta Have It! This time we’ve got some of the RPG series, for those of you who are fans of games like Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder, this is the series for you. You, too, can smell like a chaotic good Elven ranger if you’ve got the right oils to combine. I got a couple to review so let’s find out how they are!

I was lucky enough to be given two bottles of the very robust RPG series. You can choose from alignment: Good, Evil, Neutral, Chaotic, and Lawful all have mixtures. But that’s not all! You also have a choice of race: Dwarf, Elf, Halfling, Orc, Gnome, and Half-Elf. Don’t forget when building a character in such games to pick a class: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Mage, Paladin, Ranger, and Rogue. You can literally build a character out of scents directly from many character sheets with these. If that wasn’t enough there are the smells of Dwarven Ale, Vials of Holy Water, and Thieves’ Rosin to round out the experiences your character may have.

With so many to choose from I went with one of my favorite races and one of my favorite classes, the Dwarf and the Mage. Each is pretty much on the other end of the spectrum of smells, so it seemed like a good idea. One’s a gruff, mountainous race that prides itself on many physical labors, and the other is a career of research, intelligence, and a desire for unlocking mysteries. Seemed like the perfect two to try out.

BPAL RPG DWARFDwarf is a strong smell. Right off the bat, you open that bottle up and you are greeted with a strong aroma. This one had the strongest reaction from people I let smell it. One person didn’t care for it at all. Others just found it very strong. One was reminded of someone they used to know wearing such a fragrance long ago. I liked that this scent kind of had the reaction that the fictional race it’s based off of would have. Some were put off by it, others were reminded of someone older, but everyone knew they were dealing with something potent and stern. That’s how you capture an essence.

BPAL RPG MAGENow this was a scent that got some interesting reactions. One person said it tasted like fruity candy and that they’d wear that for any occasion. I like the idea that a powerful magical person smells like hard candies that they carry in their pocket, truly the power of all reality and wisdom beyond that of most mortals. It was seen as a scent some would like to wear. I’m glad this scent doesn’t terrify those who do not understand its power, but instead has the aspect of people being marveled by the magics wielded by a mage. I really do love that hard candy wizard just casting spells and sucking on a grape flavored candy.

My only complaint about the RPG series is that there are so many to choose from. I feel like I could go on and on trying them out. I wonder what combining some of them together could get you. That’s the only problem; there are so many cool options. That isn’t a complaint so much as a desire for more. If you’re a gamer of the tabletop variety then you should definitely give some of these a try. Let me know what you think! Thank you again to Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab for the bottles to try out! Think I’ll go look up some D&D and Pathfinder comics.
