From Friendly Ghosts To Gamma Rays, No. 185
Howdy ya’ll, and welcome back to our all-ages comics column, From Friendly Ghosts To Gamma Rays! Between all the 90s references thrown at me on TV this week in Lucas Bros. Moving Co. and Regular Show, I’ve been in an oddly 90s mood, and so what better time to read and review the upcoming collected edition of the Saved By The Bell comics than now?

Saved By The Bell Vol.1
Publisher: Lion Forge (Roar Comics line)
Story: Joelle Sellner
Art: Tim Fish and Chyna Clugston Flores
Every generation has their teen high school TV comedy, and for us millennials of the 1990s it certainly was Saved By The Bell. Starting in 2014, Lion Forge Comics released this series digitally, but now a nice new printed collected edition is coming our way in June, with the first eight issues all together! As the description reads:
And the good news for folks who haven’t read it yet, is you really get what you think you will here, not a turd, but a great adaptation, with a slightly more updated tone and modern jokes. Sellner has done a great job writing wise, each character sounding as they would on the 1990s show, but obviously the dialogue changed to reflect the world of today, with still enough winks at older fans interested in checking it out.
On the art side, Flores and Fish have really captured the look of the characters. Thinking back to yesteryear, as a child I can remember picking up a few issues when Harvey Comics adapted the show to comics format for the first time, and I remember thinking their art really looked nothing like the folks on the show. Here, though, you can see the resemblance and approve all the way. Layouts are mostly that of an Archie comics format, which works considering the material would fit right at home with any of those titles.
Overall, the team at Lion Forge’s ROAR line has done a grade-A job in adapting this title to the comics page, and for those who dislike digital copies and didn’t want to nab this on a Kindle, this printed edition comes out in July (although your comic shop can pre-order now). High recommendation, not just for nostalgia buffs, but all ages (but nostalgia buffs will be especially pleased).

That’s it for this week, see you soon!

You were singing the theme song while writing this weren’t you?! lol
Looks like some fun and I’ll probably check it out and spark my fond memories of Lark Voorhies from way back when!
