Richard Starkings Celebrates the DADOES Hardcover Release!

DADOES_001ADo Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is a novel written by the legendary Philip K. Dick, originally published in 1968. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic near future and stars Rick Deckard, a bounty hunter of androids, and John Isidore, a man of sub level intelligence who has befriended the androids. In 1982 the book was adapted into the movie Blade Runner, starring Harrison Ford as Rick, and in 2009 a comic book under the original name started being published through BOOM Studios!. Since the comic book is a direct word-for-word representation of Dick’s novel (making it quite literally a ‘graphic novel‘), he is naturally credited as the writer, while the lettering credentials go to Richard Starkings (Elephantmen) and the art is by Tony Parker (Warhammer artist). The comic run has experienced great success so far, with 5 of 24 issues already being released, with multiple covers for each issue.

ComicAttack.net is proud to announce that this Wednesday, November 11th, from 1pm-8pm at Collector’s Paradise in Los Angeles, Richard Starkings will be celebrating the release of the Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? vol. 1 144 page hardcover, collecting issues #1-#4 of the series! Check out the press release for the event below:

Do Androids Dream… is one of the most influential books of all time. The new comic book re-creation by Boom Studios! is a great way to read this classic Sci-Fi novel. Boom Studios have done something special here, by translating the book into comic book form without changing or “adapting” it to the graphic form. Every single line and meaning of the book is here.

Nobody deserves the praise for this wonderful edition more than Richard Starkings, the famous letterer whose name comes up in conversations about such classics as the Killing Joke and so many more. Richard’s uncanny ability to add the words to the pictures is demonstrated here to its fullest, and, along with the beautiful art, is a big part of the reason the book is so successful.

Join us on Wednesday, November 11th, as we welcome back our good friend Rich Starkings, to promote the release of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep Vol 1 HC. Rich is going to hang out at the store from 1pm to 8pm, and talk to anyone who wants to talk to him about Androids, his own FANTASTIC book, Elephantmen, or anything else related to the world of comics.”

Having met Richard before at other signing events, I can honestly say that even if you aren’t reading DADOES or Elephantmen (which you should be reading!) it’s worth the visit just to speak with him about the industry and life in general; he’s an incredibly intelligent and affable guy.

We’ll see you Wednesday at Collector’s Paradise!
